True Move H to be banned from re-auction of 900 MHz spectrum



BANGKOK: -- True Move H Universal Communications which won a license for the 900 MHz spectrum will not be allowed to participate in the re-auction of the other license forfeited from Jas Mobile Broadband which defaulted in installment payment.

Mr Thakorn Tanthasit, secretary-general of the National Broadcasting and Telecommunications Commission, said the board, at its special meeting today (Tuesday) decided to ban True Move H from the fresh bid because the company has already obtained one 900 MHz spectrum license and obtaining another license will be deemed as market monopoly.

The board also decided to ban Jas Mobile Broadband for entering the fresh bid for its failure to come up with the first installment payment of the license fees.

Mr Thakorn insisted that the starting bidding price for the re-auction which matched with the final bidding price offered by Jas Mobile – 75,654 million baht – is not too high as there are other operators who are interested to join the re-auction.

The NBTC is still awaiting for words from DTAC whether the company is interested to join the re-auction or not otherwise AIS, the first runner-up after Jas Mobile in the last auction, would have the right to make the first choice for the license.

Um, no - this has nothing to do with the 'single gateway', which isn't going to happen anyways, due to the huge expense and deleterious effect on Thailand's Internet infrastructure.

The license should go to the next runner up, AIS, whether DTAC is interested or not

But no, they want to get all the extra fees a new auction will generate. I hope that the communications companies involved call their bluff and all refuse to bid at the obscene starting bid, based upon the final price from a bidder who defaulted
