NLA President: Additional question will not confuse the public

BANGKOK, 2 May 2016 (NNT) – The National Legislative Assembly (NLA) is confident the additional question to be included in the public referendum won't confuse the general public.

NLA president Pornpetch Wichitcholchai said members of the assembly will be able to make people understand the additional question before they go to the polls on August 7th. They will understand the meaning of the question and why it has to be asked. He said the lawmakers and volunteers will use simple words when explaining both the draft constitution and the additional question to the people.

The additional question asks “Should selected senators be allowed to vote for prime minister?”

The NLA president is confident that the public will not be confused and hopes that everyone will be able to cast their vote without being manipulated by any side.

He also played down rumors about a conflict between the legislature, the National Reform Steering Assembly (NRSA), and the Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC).

I'm sure the public will totally understand the idea behind an unelected body being able to vote for an unelected candidate for Prime Minister.

What would happen if the majority votes "No" on these questions?

Which constitution would be valid then?

And wouldn't that affect the process of re-democratisaton?
