Hello!

I got one tiny question pertaining to the usual visa issue... hope there's still someone around willing to answer! I'll be in Chiang Khong this week and as I'll have to extend my visa anyways sometime soon I thought to skip the usual trip to Mae Sai and instead extend it there. Yet the visa for Lao is something like 30 US$, which I'd rather not spend for just hopping in and out. Therefore I was wondering whether it's possible just to leave Thailand and directly re-enter without entering and leaving Lao first. Anybody ever done so? Got into trouble with immigration officer? Or no problems at all? Oh and just btw I got a one-year non-immigrant visa, so the new visa regulations shouldn't be a problem (I hope!). Would very much appreciate any info! Thanks a lot!

Cheers,

KK

P.S. Have been reading for a while in this forum already and come to like it lots, very informative! Hope to be able to contribute myself sometime! Until then look forward to your helpful answers! :o

Crossing a landborder you need to have the entry/exit stamp otherwise Thai Immigration will not let you back in.

If you travel by air it is different as many countries do not stamp you in. You can , theoretically , turn around in the airport and come back.

But if Immigration would like to see your boarding pass , please have it ready , otherwise you might be denied entry.

As said the exit stamp from another county is required at a land border. Without it you may well be subject to arrest and deportation.

He won't pay $30 for a visa, so the airfare will certainly be a stopper.

Hi KamikazeKitten, If you go to Laos the visa fee for UK/US citizens is now 35 US dollars or 1700 Baht, other countries pay different rates ranging from about 20 USD to 42 USD.
