TRANG: -- A father charged with raping his eight year old daughter in Trang appeared in court yesterday where he was remanded in custody.

Named as Kitisak Thongyoi, 33, he has now taken back his earlier admission of guilt saying he was under pressure and high stress.

Relatives of the man still hope that DNA evidence due out this week will set him free reported Manger Online.

Earlier in the week Kitisak had tried to commit suicide but was saved by police. Mental health personnel at a hospital where he was being treated initially refused to release him into police custody for his court appearance but after he recovered sufficiently they allowed him to leave.

He was visibly exhausted as police supported him into a police vehicle after his appearance Wednesday.

He has now said that he did not rape his daughter claiming he made the admission when he was under pressure and stress. Results of DNA tests taken from the victim are due out later this week.

His eight year old daughter died in hospital after she was given Krathom tea laced with YA Ba and raped. She died of the overdose. On her deathbed she had named a neighbor called "First" who police have yet to clear of involvement in the case. The father initially said that he was sleeping out back at the house and heard nothing.

Even if he did not rape and murder this little girl, he is still responsible for her death.

The father has less tolerance for pain/discomfort? From police perspective, does it matter who 'confesses'?

Why's the DNA taking so long? I know some islands where it's ready overnight

Thats only in situations where you have already determined guilt and the actual test is irrelevant

This is a sad story, and there seems to be few stories like this at the moment, the more disturbing thought is how common is this?

How much of this sic behavior is covered up and kept quiet, just so the family won't loose face within their community?

Do these people know its wrong? or is burying your head in the sand every time there is problem another accepted form of behavior for these communities?

...then why did he try to kill himself....

...then why did he try to kill himself....

if i had allowed this to happen to my daughter i would probably be suicidal.

Thai coverups are common. In this case there was a death so it became public

what an absolute tragedy RiP and the little girl named her attacker and the Police have yet to 'clear him'? have they arrested him?

Absent all the facts, that kind of logic conjecture could make you or anybody else responsible.

Well we can all speculate but as we know in Thailand, where police regularly torture suspects until they confess, an admission of guilt means nothing. Even if he was innocent then the knowledge of what treatment he would get in prison would probably make suicide a less painful option.

I would be interested to know where you get your information, that police REGULARLY torture suspects until they confess.
