I am married to a Thai woman and would like to know if I will be able to obtain a Thai passport. If so, how to go about it. Thanking you in advance for your advice :o

Marrying a Thai does not entitle you to be a Thai citizen and thus a Thai passport. Even to be a Permanent Citizen is not automatic and it is not easy to acheive.

You can apply for a 1 year stay if you like

Short answer is no. The only thing it does provide is ability to obtain a non immigrant O visa to visit your wife for 90 days at a time; and if you meet 40k per month family income a yearly extension of that stay.

First apply of the one year visa extension Non Imm O based on marriage.

Extend it for 3 years, one year at a time.

Pay income tax on your employment.

Apply for Permanent Residence - by no means guaranteed.

Apply later for citizenship - even more difficult than PR. :o

Now go and have a beer and think carefully about why you really want to be a Thai citizen.

I am sure your own nationality will open many more doors. :D

I have the impression that only in highly exceptional cases it is (or maybe used to be) possible for foreigners to obtain Thai nationality. I remember one British lady who had been married to a Thai for a long time before being divorced, 2 children resulted from the marriage, she had Thai nationality and she told me she had a permanent visa for the UK. Then there was this European guy who had been working for a major Thai bank for 18 years or so, he is married to a Thai, he went through the process of applying for Thai citizenship, I don't know if he was granted it in the end. It would be interesting to hear from some foreigners who are holding Thai citizenship.

women married to Thai men can immediately apply for Thai nationality. It is all, pass go, collect $200 for them.

Process is long winded, little understood by the officals you need to contact, and takes at least 3 years to process.
