Motorcycle street racers in Surin province defy the NCPO

THAILAND -- In a show of defiance against the National Council for Peace and Order and the police, about 200 motorcycles – many of them were illegally souped up to increase the horsepower of the engines – took part in illegal road racing in Muang district of Surin province early Thursday morning.

Chosen as the race track for the illegal race was the road from IQ intersection to Thepthani intersection in Tambon Nok Muang.

An employee of a convenience store near the “race track” said that the illegal racers and their spectators often gathered en masse on Wednesday, Friday and Saturday nights. He added that the local police had never been serious in the crackdown of this illegal practice.

Residents living near the scene of the racing said that the illegal racing was very disturbing and they would like authorities concerned to stop the practice which, they noted, poses a threat to motorists.

A more apt headline might read:

"Local police from Muang district of Surin province defy the NCPO as they have never been serious in the crackdown of illegal motorcycle street racers"

This is surely a challenge to the Prime Minister's authority thrown down by the bikie racers. What is he going to do about it? My prediction. A committee will be formed to investigate the problem and report back in 2020.

time to start crushing motor bikes, catch them and crush all the bikes, without them it will be very hard to race each other. If they are under age fine the parents as well, make them all pay big fines and then see who can afford to replace their crushed bikes. Thing is they need to police or army to actually want to stop it, maybe its their kids, we all know police kids get away with murderrolleyes.gif

Maybe he'll order some more students be arrested. We all know students are bad news, behind so much defiance but so easy to deal with.

The tradition in LOS is that "Parents don't raise their children,Children raise their parents".If the parents want their bones washed after they die then they kowtow to their defiant children.

The local boy racers and local Police are challenging the NCPO? Probably not a good thing to do.

The Military have the upper-hand, not sure why so many Police do not recognise this. Cie la vie! coffee1.gif

Just kids having fun

It would probably be more effective if they set aside some unused land and just put down track to race on which would get them off the roads themselves.

I agree, my more youthful days would also have agreed. Unfortunately this has been tried and failed in developed nations with Toronto as an example, the racers have no hope of raising enough funds for creating and maintaining the track; while any large investor will want a return so the track won't be free - getting the government involved would be like condoning the behavior. It's really a rock and a hard place.

Couldn't do that, some poor little darling might get hurt and that would never do.

Maybe time for the military to step in, sack all the BIB in Surin and take over policing for awhile.

No inactive posts for the bosses - just out on their arse.
