Establish a Thailand bank account of 800k bhat with three month record or obtain income/pension verification paper from your Embassy (65k baht per month - or both if a combination used).

1. Obtain bank letter of account balance within one week of application (match passbook) and make copies of passbook/pages.

2. Obtain letter from Embassy (if using income/pension).

3. Download and print TM.7 application for extension of stay (front/back of A4 sheet) and attach 4x6cm photo taken within last 6 months. Or form can be obtained/filled out at immigration office.

4. Prepare 1,900 baht for application fee.

5. Make copies of passport/visa/entry stamp/arrival card for immigration.

6. Optional - pay for single re entry permit or multi re entry permit if you have travel plans (1,000 or 3,800 baht).

7. If done upcountry several sets of copies may be required.

I first converted my visa to a retirement visa in Hua Hin, using lopburi3's advice, above. The officers break for lunch at noon, so go earlier or later. Be nice and polite, and they will be, too.
