The new fare rate could rise to as high as 50 baht for the first two kilometres against the current rate of 35 baht.

The fare for every kilometre thereafter could increase to as much as 12 baht against the current progressive rate. Passengers are now charged 4.5 baht/km for the third to 12th km, five baht/km for the 13th-20th km, and 5.5 baht/km thereafter.

The rate charged when a cab is stuck in a traffic jam could go up to 3 baht a minute against the current rate of 1.25 baht.

Also, taxi service operators could add a surcharge of up to 50 baht to the fare if the cabs are called via their radio systems. The present rate is 20 baht.

The new surcharge on the fare of taxi cabs at the airport could be set as high as 100 baht against the present rate of 50 baht.

Everything according to BKK Post.

And the kicker that the cabs can run for 12 years rather than the present 7 years before replacement.  Welcome back to the hole-in-the-floor crap we used to ride in and with price out of reach for most Thai believe drivers will have to set price without meter to get them, which will entail more traffic jams as they discuss the price.

The price needs to rise some; but this cabinet bill is too much and expect it will be trimmed.  The Bangkok Post is often used as a sounding board for things like this.
