EC confirms readiness of all voting units for public referendum

BANGKOK, 7 August 2016 (NNT) - The Election Commission has confirmed the readiness of all voting units for the public referendum. 

Election Commission’s acting secretary-general Boonyakiat Rakchartcharoen said today that all voting units across the country have confirmed their readiness for the public referendum after receiving all materials needed for the voting session. 

Mr. Boonyakiat said that all materials and the final lists of eligible voters have been securely stored and are under a round-the-clock watch by the police 

He added that the EC’s Rapid Report system, which will be employed for the reporting of vote counts from all voting units, is operational, although a back-up system which includes facsimiles and telephone calls, has been prepared for all provincial EC officers to stay in touch with their colleagues in Bangkok. 

Mr. Boonyakiat expects the unofficial result will be known by 8 p.m.
