NLA explains national strategy laws to people of Ranong

Kitti Cheevasittiyanon

BANGKOK, 21 August 2016 (NNT) - The National Legislative Assembly has traveled to southern Ranong and explained the planned drafting of laws related to the national reform strategies to the residents of the province.

At the NLA’s Meet-the-People session, where over 500 local residents participated, members of the legislature have heard calls for help to tackle various problems in the province, including corruption and garbage management.

Participants said that there are around 32,000 tons of garbage left untouched on land that is over 4 rai large and located next to the Biosphere Reserve, which is the first of its kind to be declared in the region.

At one of the forums, NLA member Nirawat Punnakan told participants that the legislature will need to speed up its work to draft all laws related to the national reform strategy, which need to be completed before the new Constitution is put into effect.

He said that, for these laws to be ready, the NLA will need to hear more opinions from people around the country, who are instrumental in guiding the reform of Thailand.

Was Khun Nirawat implying that the legislature needs to draft all laws related to the national reform strategy, then the new Constitution is put into effect before the 32,000 tons of garbage can be seen to? Or did he simply ignore the residents' concerns and stick to his script?
