Saudia plane isolated in Manila after false distress call

MANILA, Philippines (AP) — Philippine officials say a Saudi Arabian Airlines plane from Jeddah made a distress call Tuesday shortly before landing at Manila's airport and was placed in isolation after it touched down, but the flight crew later said they made a mistake in sending the emergency message.

Manila airport manager Eddie Monreal said authorities deployed security forces around the aircraft as a precaution. Passengers were later allowed to disembark.

He said the captain told the control tower that a button indicating a hijacking was in progress had been pushed accidentally.

TV stations showed Flight SV872 parked near a ramp with security personnel standing nearby while passengers descended from a staircase.

Saudi plane isolated at Manila airport after false hijack alarm, incident over

"It (the button) was unintentionally pushed. But the problem is it was pushed twice."

Maybe he thought he had to push it again to cancel it - either that, or he is a very pushy person!!

I wish it were so, but looking at this incident with a realistic viewpoint it was almost certainly a real hijacking by our favorite group. PC media hamstrung and unable to call it what it is. Watch the sites that break all the news 48hrs before MSM are reluctantly forced to start coverage. Remember if it wasn't for Breitbart there never would gave been a single incident on that terrible Cologne night. Let's wait and see, but this hijacking sounds very real. Pilots know what the hijacking alert button is and would not press it twice unless something happened - something like an attempt to storm the cockpit.

False alarm sparks full response in Manila

MANILA: -- A Saudi Arabian Airlines flight was isolated at Manila airport in the Phillipines on Tuesday morning, when a hijack alarm was accidentally pressed by the pilot.

Despite crew confirming the false alarm, the airport’s full emergency response was activated.

Manila airport manager Edmund Monreal said “it (the button) was unintentionally pushed. But the problem is it was pushed twice.”

He added, “It is fortunate that upon landing … the crew said they made a mistake. However, we can never play around with safety and security.”

Passengers were quickly evacuated, as officials responded to the situation.

Filipino aviation officials say penalties may follow for the pilot involved, it it turns out human error was indeed the cause of the panic.

The airline is yet to comment.
