webfact
About 200 non-lethal weapons seized at Sanam Luang BANGKOK: -- Police have seized more than 200 knives, cutters, brass knuckles and scissors from people at Sanam Luang on Tuesday and today. The seized items were put on display at a press conference held at Sanam Luang by Pol Lt-Gen Sanit Mahathavorn, commissioner of metropolitan police bureau, on Wednesday. He said that the items were seized by police from teenagers and people who mingled with mourners at Sanam Luang. They were each fined 1,000 baht, he said, adding however that if any of them were found to have ulterior motive in carrying those items which are considered as non-lethal weapons, they would face additional charges. Pol Lt-Gen Sanit warned people not to carry any weapons when arriving at Sanam Luang and the Grand Palace to pay tribute to the late King Bhumibol. He said police had tightened up security at the two venues and would search any individuals suspected of carrying weapons. Obviously, a lot of the mourners are chefs and tailors, but it's hard to identify the trade of those with brass knuckles !!!
NongKhaiKid
Non-lethal weapons, really ? Why would people go armed to a funeral, unless a mafia style one, but maybe ready for violence related to their grief as recently explained away by a govt psychologist and didn't the justice minister say something about vigilantism regarding people not paying proper respects as decided by the mob of course ? AlQaholic
just a cross section of the Thai population...the normal amount of weapons that can be found anywhere in Thailand at any time if same amount of people where searched anywhere else. For example if you go to a late night hangout, study the Thai kids, you will see 90% of the male kids have one of those small box cutters you can buy at 7 in a pocket somewhere. bangon04
" Police have seized more than 200 knives, cutters, brass knuckles and scissors from people " " those items which are considered as non-lethal weapons, " so take comfort - next time 6 Thai taxi drivers come at you with knives, cutters, brass knuckles and scissors, they do not mean to kill you. They just want to teach you some gentle Thainess.
Baerboxer
3 hours ago, whatproblem said: Isn't a knife a lethal weapon ,it can kill in the wrong hands ? So is a car, motor bike, tuk tuk and bus in the wrong hands. But guess many arrived there in one. Someone having a penkife or small pocket knife or small scissors is one thing. A fighting knife, dagger, survival or tactical knife somewhat less easy to explain. Box cutters - naughty unless they happen to use them for their work. Like lots of football hoolies in the UK carry Stanley knives. As for knuckle - dusters / brass knucks: only designed for one thing. So if they're talking Swiss Army "classics" or similar then bit OTT. If they're talking automatic, assisted, flippers or fixed blades, then maybe they should be asking why they're being carried. Narratio
The guy carrying the brass knuckles must have been a chef, they're used for meat tenderising. Obvious really. Next?
sgtsabai
Thailand is Thailand, east is east-west is west ner the twain shall meet. I used and carried a large folding knife on my belt at work, everybody carried knives & guns, especially when I lived and worked in the mountains of northern New Mexico. SE Texass was different, but still everybody was armed. Nobody thought anything about it. I didn't usually carry a knife, except small pocket knife, when I went to the bars, Colt Government Model 1911A1, custom. America is different and one has to adapt to one's adoptive country, somewhat.

bodunchar
A UK policeman was punched in the face with a long motorbike key, just below his eye, which penetrated the soft tissues around the eye socket. The assailant aimed for the eye. If it had hit his eye the policeman would most likely be dead. The human body is a lethal weapon. An idea is a lethal weapon.
