Chinese New Year

Featured Replies

It has been widely reported about the cancellation of 2017 New Year's Eve firework events out of respect for the King, to be replaced by candlelit vigils.

With the huge reliance the tourist economy has on Chinese visitors, has anyone heard what the plans are for Chinese New Year in February ? Lots of people in China are asking me if there will be a normal celebration ( fire crackers, Dragon dances ) or whether these will be cancelled as well.

I am standing by for a deluge of " Good let them stay at home " posts from the non Sino community !!

Nope, Chinese New Year is not cancelled.China will still be celebrating in full force.  BUUUUTTTT.  The celebration in Thailand will be toned down and respectful in Memory of the King.

no, not cancelled...just moved to August 16!

Chinese New Year is in January this year.

That is MAJOR money. What do you think?

Saturday 28 January begins the Year of the Rooster.  Cock-a-doodle-do!  or is it 'coco-ri-co'?

Any cock'll do

Like ALL celebrations - toned down-probably no fire works or music. But a date can't be cancelled just the celebration of that date modified.
