Jenphop Viraporn walks to his family car on Monday as he leaves the Ayutthaya Provincial Court.

AYUTTHAYA — A businessman accused of vehicular manslaughter surprised the court Monday by announcing he he is now fit to stand trial.

Jenphop Viraporn, who came to the Ayutthaya provincial court without his attorney, withdrew his previous claim that he was mentally incompetent to stand trial eight months after he allegedly sped his Mercedes Benz into the back of another car, killing two students within.

Surprising. But still a complete scumbag regardless. And the fact he has done such a thing only seems to fuel suspicion that money has changed hands somewhere high up in the rotten, disgusting system.

I smell an iffy verdict / disgustingly inadequate sentence coming in future ?

Thai court case watchers will recognise this move as the indicator that the deal has been brokered and the fix is in. The path ahead for the case has now been plotted and all the players are on board.

What specifically that path is, we, the general public, will not find out for some time as these scripted dramas take months or years to play out.

Enough time to get the case out of the headlines and for attention to wane.

Money has been sorted.

Now for the sham case to go ahead, verdict will again be a travesty of justice.

Could be a double bluff. Telling the court he's fit to stand trial could raise suspicion he's unfit to stand trial as unfit is a valid excuse for the hiso to escape judgement and his faculties are too impaired to realise.

I think a deal has been struck. It's very easy to turn it around when people forget quickly.

Say that he was genuinely nuts for a bit but fought hard to stabilize himself so he could face the court. Court takes into account how hard he fought to exorcise those crazy demons but how they were with him at the time of the crash. He was nuts at the time but not anymore.

Can't blame him for the crash - he was crazy then. He's been to the temple and worked really hard. Can't send this man to prison. Here's a few Baht and lovely fable of how a man turned his life around.

Sadly I think you are probably pretty close with that scenario

A wonderfully devious idea but probably too complicated for Thailand, much easier to bung the judge and court officials.

Amazing what 48 hours in a temple can do to an insane man.

... or until he kills two more innocent people...

Sitting in a crippling position listening to chanting monks for longer than ten minutes has driven me to the point of insanity in the past.

I refuse to go into the temples anymore.

They are full of overweight bald takers and I get annoyed over the annual utter waste of billions of bahts, which should, IMO, be spent into the education system and not donated to the brainwashing religious cartel.

How much of a successful businessman is this guy? That is clearly not his suit. He must have borrowed it. The arms are far too long and the pants are baggy as hell.

Or did he just borrow this suit to look poor? I can't remember was the car he crashed his? Or did he borrow that too?

Just to give a bit of background.

He is the scion of the Lenso aluminium and wheel dynasty. His father's company is very large and the family is wealthier than you can imagine.

The son owns a car dealership that specialised in high-end imported cars and thus is referred to as a successful businessman. However on social media pages he is referred to as living a playboy lifestyle.

One has to wonder is his dealership profitable?

Is he really running it?

Is he managing it or simply the majority shareholder?

Is it a front to give him and thus the family respectability?

Does he have the ability, motivation and temperament to run a business?

Is he really a successful businessman?

Just goes to show you that there is hope for even a scumbag. But then as you state about the verdict stalling comes to mind till you get the playing field slanted in your favor.

I smell a large rat with this nasty piece of sh1t.

Plan 'B', it was a brake failure.

Totally agree, but the same applies to every religion in the world.

..." to stand trial eight months after he allegedly sped his Mercedes Benz into the back of another car, killing two students within..."

ALLEDGEDLY....???

He must have been insane to think he could 'wing it' on an insanity plea

I wonder how much time he spent at the temple? No doubt he slipped the back door many times for a boozy night out with mates and his giks...

Thai justice, if you have the money, you literally get away with murder.

He now has some extra time to finish moving his assets offshore

Soon to be followed by his weekend visit to Singapore

Sound familiar :shock1:

I think a few new Benz have been delivered from his showroom.

So this guy killed two people in a car crash, and he's walking around free on bail?

The article is silent on that subject, but the photo of him walking to his van after the hearing tells the story.

Finally a sign of remorse n repentance? if so good for him.

Guess knowing the answers to this is very very important - to some people, others couldn't care less starting with the parents of those killed by this oxygen thief.

Did you really expect anything otherwise?

Probably just heard from his legal team that if he is declared insane he would never be able to inherit anything in the future !
