CODI volunteers to mediate Khlong Ladprao encroachment negotiations

BANGKOK, 23 November 2016 (NNT) – The Community Organizations Development Institute (CODI) has volunteers to media negotiations between residents and the Bangkok Metropolitan Administration (BMA) on their encroachment of Khlong Ladprao.

CODI Director Plakorn Wongkongkaew has mounted a viewing expedition of the Khlong Ladprao waterway to see the extent of alleged encroachment by local residents. He has also sought to gauge local perceptions of the allegations by meeting with all 179 households in the area.

Initial impressions have revealed that citizens along the waterway want the BMA to downsize a planned expansion of the canal and to have the option to rent land owned by the Crown Property Bureau and the Treasury Department nearby to where they are being asked to leave.

CODI has forwarded the opinions to the BMA and has volunteered to serve as a mediator between affected citizens and the capital administration once negotiations begin.
