BANGKOK 1 February (NNT) - The Ministry of Tourism and Sports has presented awards to the seven best tourist destinations of 2016.

Tourism and Sports Minister Kobkarn Wattanavrangkul presented the awards in recognition of seven destinations in five tourism development zones. The awards included categories such as eco-tourism, community-based tourism, and cultural tourism.

Places that received recognition include the sea mud in Phetchaburi province, communities along the Andaman Sea, and handicraft communities in the provinces of Chiang Mai, Lamphun and Lampang.

These places were nominated based on the criteria of their unique identities, the availability of basic infrastructure, the efficiency of community management, the affordability of their products, their hospitality and tourist safety.
