Visa help for 17 year old

Featured Replies

Hi looking for some help. My 17 year old came and stayed with me in Thailand last September for 2 months. We obtained a visa extension to his 30 day tourist visa in Phuket and he left before the 30 day extension finished to travel to see family in Philippines. He came back to Thailand early February and we have repeated the process, but his extension is up in another week or so. The Immigration Officer in Phuket said he would have to leave and go to Vientiane to get a further visa. My son would just like another few months here staying with me until he turns 18 when he will leave to work in Australia.

Are there any options apart from applying for another tourist visa, or is this the best option? Is Vientiane really the only place as per the immigration officers advice? I have read Penang and Savannakhet can issue the visa, both of which are more convenient for me. If it is of any import I am here on a retirement extension.

Specifically proof of hotel booking, will my Receipt of Notification of Address from Phuket Immigration suffice to cover any question about his address in Thailand should he need to supply this.

Will he need to show onward ticket to Australia at the consulate or embassy. It is not booked yet but we could easily do this .

Given his age any problem with showing my bank book rather than rely on his meagre savings.

I would accompany him wherever the best place to go is.

Thanks in advance for any help.

Penang and Savannakhet are options for a tourist visa as long as he can show onward tickets and a bank statement, in his name, with at least the equivalent of 20K baht.

As your son is under 21, and you are on an extension of stay based on retirement, he could go out for a non immigrant visa. Only proof of your extension should be needed. That would give him 90 days. If he needs longer he could then piggy back your extension for the remainder of your permit to stay.

Thank you very helpful. I will have a look at the option of the non immigrant visa for him, perhaps best for me to extend first as my year is up 17th April.
