Chinese language added to Thai street food app

BANGKOK: -- After recent favourable publicity about Thai street food, the Foreign Affairs Ministry in collaboration with the Thailand Foundation will on Thursday launch a new version of a mobile application for street food, assembling information on the country’s top roadside eateries. 

 

A Chinese language feature will be added to the new version to promote Thai food among Chinese tourists.

 

Street Food Phuket, Street Food Chiang Mai-Chiang Rai and Street Food Bangkok will be launched simultaneously to promote Thai cuisine to foreign visitors as well as to enhance Thailand’s tourism image, according to the Thai National News Bureau. 

 

In the new version, the application will present information on the locations of street food vendors in Thai, English and Chinese. It will be available for free download on both Android and iOS operation systems.

 

The Street Food Bangkok app was launched in 2015, followed by Street Food Chiang Mai and Street Food Chiang Rai last year. A Street Food Phuket app is planned. 

 

The launch follows CNN’s ranking of Thailand as one of the world’s “Street Food Paradises” for a second consecutive year and the World Street Food Congress’s choice of Bangkok’s fried oyster pancakes as one of the top three street dishes surveyed. 

 

Prime Minister Prayut Chan-o-cha responded to the publicity by telling street food vendors to make sure their food was hygienic and of the highest quality. He also told them to cooperate with authorities working to regulate tourist sites for the better image of the nation.

However, social media users have criticised the government policy street vendor banning stalls on footpaths.

Tell the vendors to not throw water on the sidewalks, tourists don't like to get wet feet from dirty water cause it's possible to get nasty diseases from that.

I think the chinese are tough as nails, do Thai get food poisoning when they go abroad? I doubt it, never heard of it.

I'm convinced both have the stomachs of an ostrich and could survive on a diet of nothing but broken glass....as long as it come with rice.

 

I once ordered what looked like kim-chi in Taiwan & got a plate of pickled duck's feet.

The thing that I hate the most about street food in Thailand is the "I don't want it spicy, no chilli's, please" and still they put chilli's in your food. It's a bit like this clip from Dumb & Dumber the movie. My mouth is on fire and I try ketchup and what evers at arm reach to put out the fire.

I wish I had 5 baht for every time I ordered som-tam (which I LOVE), in my best Thai, saying "Just 1 pepper please?", stand there watching them make it & the lady will invariably grab 6 or 8 peppers to toss in there, so I have to watch them VERY closely & tell them "Just ONE!" 17 times.

 

They look at me like I'm nuts.

 

It turns into "Turbo-Lax" for me in about an hour otherwise.

Duckfeet, chickenfeet, duckmouths my wife likes all of it and so do her friends. I 've been with them several times to go eat that but i pass.

Yes but they are soo small, chickenelboys are served in every good restaurant though....don't understand what Thai like about those.
