Mea Sot or Mukdahan border crossings

Featured Replies

Mea Sot was so easy to get your stamp for 500 baht or $10, took me 30 mins in all. But the best part of my trip was at the: https://www.tripadvisor.com/Restaurant_Review-g317132-d2590173-Reviews-The_Passport_Restaurant_Mae_Sot-Mae_Sot_Tak_Province.html

The food here was amazing!  and the hotel was nice also. So if you come to Mea Sot, this is a must place to eat! Now when you come back to the Thai side after you get your stamp, there is a market area on the river area and in the market you will fine a Old antiques  shop. This is something you will want to see. trust me!

Mukdahan was a nice trip by VIP bus, but the next bus to go over to Savannakhet was a bit of a fight to just get on the bus. You need to place yourself to the front of the bus door before it opens up, if you see any farang going to the Thai consulate like you. Talk to them about all of you paying for a ride, it will save a little money. You will have to stay over night, so for me I stay at the casino hotel.

Now before you go to Mukdahan, call Don at; Mukdahan Manor B&B, 081 047 4781.....Don has been there for over 30 yrs or so, he is someone who knows every one on both sides of the river.

Now most Farangs will tell you that Savannakhet has no nightlife and it's a dead little town....not so! You need to call Don and ask him were to go and stay, and he can tell you more about the Thai consulate.

Now after you get back to the Thai side, you will in up back at the bus station and wait about 3 hrs for the next bus...Just call Don and he will have a taxi pick you up and take you to his place for drinks and some good food....Don and his Wife are great people.

Now you will fine many post on step-by-step on both places on this site, I am just adding some info to just make you trip a little nicer.
