cchina184
I am looking for a suitable wood to make a small sailboat mast. A 12 foot 4x4 would do the job. White pine or fir would be my choices if available but neither seems to be sold here. Is there a light, strong, straight grained Thai wood that might be used as a substitute. Teak is too heavy. Any information would be appreciated.
grollies
Pretty limited here to choices. I'm in the planning stages of building a small sailing dingy. Mast, if teak, mahogany, rubber too heavy I think your best bet (and cheap to replace) would be eucalyptus. Light and fairly strong, used in scaffolding round here.
