rooster59
NLA debates seed funding for political parties By The Nation The law-vetting committee at the National Legislative Assembly has debated having two options in regard to seed-funding required for forming political parties, according to General Somjet Boonthanom. Gen Somjet is chair of the committee vetting the Political Parties Bill, one of the four organic laws required for the coming election. The Constitution Drafting Commission (CDC) has proposed that Bt1 million in seed funding is required for the formation of a political party. The bill, which passed a first reading in the NLA, is now being considered by the vetting committee, before being submitted to the Assembly for second and third readings. Gen Somjet said the committee had proposed two options for acquiring seed funding for a political party. The first option is that a political party may be formed without having seed funding, but that party will not be able to field any MPs. The other option is that a political party is required to have seed funding, but its ceiling is not as much as Bt1 million, as set by the charter drafters. The committee will finalise the text in regard to this matter next week, Gen Somjet said. I'd guess that Bt1 million is pocket change for any of its generals.

Less than PTP's daily spending on members stipends, don't you think?
