Government Savings Bank rebuffs social media chatter: no money giveaway

The state-owned Government Savings Bank (GSB) has warned people not to believe that they will receive free money from the bank.

 

On Monday people shared messages via Line in which is was stated that GSB will give people Bt1,000 or Bt2,000 if their ID cards ends in “eight” or “28” respectively.

 

The bank also warned people to stop sharing the message because doing so may be against the law.

 

As Tuesday is August 8 and eight is considered a lucky number, social media users told people to make merit to have good luck or amass wealth.

I recently used my K Bank ATM and they said they would be taking 250 baht for the annual fee. So it is true - you can receive money for doing nothing.

IIRC, GSB did have a money giveaway program a while back when someone(s) hacked their ATM network. But I don't think that caper had anything to do with ID cards ending in 8...
