  1. What she actually said was that their hotel does not list on Agoda because of problems in the past. She said they only use booking.com. She showed me the reservation and, indeed, it did come from booking.com although I had made it through Agoda. And when I checked the listing on booking.com later, breakfast was not included. So i can only assume that the hotel made the listing on booking.com, which then listed it on Agoda. Agoda is strange in many respects though. For example, prices will differ depending on how you access the site. For example, in the past, I've seen different prices listed if I go directly to the site or access it through a third party like google maps. And of course it's well known that prices change depending on your location. I have also seen hotels that are listed as sold out but I could find a booking if I went through a third party site. Given the various permutations, I wouldn't be surprised if they're making mistakes.
  2. I booked a hotel on Agoda that clearly stated that breakfast was included. When I got to the hotel, they told me no breakfast . I showed them the Agoda confirmation and they told me that they never use Agoda due to problems in the past and always use Booking.com. In fact, I had made the booking over Agoda but the hotel had received the booking from Booking.com. I told them it was basically the same company but they insisted that Agoda always makes mistakes. As it turned out, the breakfast was terrible so I didn't really care but I still had to wonder who was at fault.
  3. Acolyte is now the lowest rated Star Wars show of all time. Apparently, viewers didn't like that coven of lesbian witches. https://m.imdb.com/news/ni64650844/?ref_=tt_nwr_1
  4. I took a look at Trigger Warning but couldn't finish it. I'm a fan of Jessica Alba but I don't get this new trend of middle-aged actresses pretending to be action stars. The movie was just boring.
  5. Not at all. It will just create more speculation at inflated prices.
  6. It's always a bad idea to position your housing market Have they? I see units for rent at these places all the time for ridiculous prices, a 35 sq meter unit at the Riveria, for example, going for 20,000. Other places are even more. I wonder what percentage of units are actually rented out. In Bangkok, I live next to Life One Wireless, where 35 sq meter units go for for 25,000 and up. According to Hipflat, out of the total of 501 units, 410 are for rent. I believe it too looking at the windows at night.
  7. He's the founder of Sansiri one of biggest real estate developers in Thailand and he was one of the biggest shareholders before transferring the shares to his daughter when he ran for PM. I guess they must have a lot of excess condos on their hands.
  8. 2000 baht fine no matter how many you miss. 200 baht if you didn't extend your visa with them. They will file a TM 30 for you for an extra 500 baht.
  9. Plaid connects Wise to your bank account via the ACH network. I don't know if it was the bank or Wise that disconnected it but there weren't any network problems. I was able to reconnect fairly quickly but it was still disconcerting because I'm paranoid about phishing attempts and fake websites and you have to put in your bank's password and user name. Then when I went to the bank's website I got an error while logging in. But everything seems to have worked out okay.
  10. Wise identified my laptop as "suspicious" even though it's the same one I always use. They also misidentified the operating system as Windows 10. I did get the email they sent to verify the account. Then I found my bank's connection to Plaid had been cut. I managed to reconnect but the process was a hassle. The transfer did come through in seconds however.
  11. Now could how many traffic crimes you see being committed in that short video
  12. Not in Thailand. In Thailand respect is given on the basisi of status. If you only respected people who were competent, the country would be in chaos.
  13. No, if a person is convicted of a crime in a foreign country, that doesn't disqualify him from becoming an MP or joining the Cabinet. But crimes commited overseas can be prosecuted in Thailand. There was the famous case of Joe Gordon, an american citizen who had a blog that translated part of "The King Never Smiles" into Thai. When he visited Thailand, he was arrested and convicted of lese majesty even though that's obviously not a crime in America.
  14. I've been here quite some time and tend to take Bangkok traffic with equanimity while at the same time recognizing that I should be terrified. Every day, I see countless incidents of people breaking the law, running red lights, making illegal U-turns, motorcycles and going the wrong way down one-way streets (and even cars sometimes), driving on the sidewalks. When I have to cross the street at a pedestrian crosswalk, it often turns into a sprint because some motorcycle will come barrelling down the street with no intention of stopping. It's a miracle that there aren't many more accidents than there are.
  15. Saunas actually reduce the incidence of coronary events and strokes. They can also lower blood pressure, reduce stress, and strengthen the immune system. As long as you don't over do it.
