Bangkok Offers 1 Million Baht Gala Dinner to Wealthy Gourmets

BANGKOK: -- A Bangkok restaurant will charge 1 million baht ($29,134) per person for an 11-course dinner this weekend, with dishes by six chefs who have three Michelin stars.

The chefs, Antoine Westermann, Jean-Michel Lorain, Marc Meneau, Annie Feolde, Heinz Winkler and Alain Soliveres will produce signature dishes on Feb. 10, featuring ingredients such as black truffle, Kobe beef, foie gras and sorbet `Dom Perignon', all served with wine.

The ``Epicurean Masters of the World'' dinner will be held at the Dome restaurant atop Bangkok's State Tower, more than 60 stories high, according to an advertisement distributed by the organizers.

Thailand is trying to attract more wealthy tourists who spend more than backpackers to help boost its economy, which is forecast to cool to as little as 4 percent from about 5.1 percent in 2006, the central bank said in January.

Tourism revenue generated this year will rise 13 percent to 547.5 billion baht ($16 billion), the country's tourism authority has estimated.

The sufficiency economy in action? No doubt the Thais attending will leave with their swollen bellies pressing against their yellow shirts.

Nothing says "morality, sufficiency, and integrity" more than throwing down 1 million baht in a frivolous face gaining dinner with your fellow robber-baron Thais.

with such a ridiculous pricetag I wonder what would happen if one of

the guests legitimately found a foreign object in one of the courses? :o

do you think they would get a 100 percent refund or just a percentage?

these things can happen

The real question is : can we get VAT refund ?
