A friend of mine who was living and married to a Thai lady in Chiang Mai recently contacted me and asked for help in this matter. Here's the story.

while living in Chiang Mai, he thinks that a jealous ex of his now ex-wife poisoned him. He believes that the medicine used is called yasang [ order drug] and that it would be obtained from I suppose what you would call a black magician. Apparently there are a number of variants of the medicine. The one that he has begins to effect the throat then slowly the left side of the body, breathing, joint pains, exhaustion, palpitations and bruising around the body. It has left him pretty much bedridden over the last year or so and still hasn't cleared up. All the checks at the hospital indicate that he has been poisoned. He is currently seeing a chinese herbalist in the UK but has asked me to find out any info I can.

If anyone has any knowledge in this area please let me know

thanks Steve

On a serious note - he should contact the Hospital of Tropical Disease in London asap. They have come across thousands more nasties than we have ever dreamed about ...

I once had to spend two visits there and the people you meet are incredible, they appear from all corners of the traveled (and untraveled) world with diseases they have acquired ... my consultant just said "yes - makes life very interesting... " classic brit uderstatement. And the staff are equally fantastic .... or they were in the 1980's I guess the old boy who ran it and was medical advisor to the English Cricket Team (who's name I cannot remember) has probably moved on ... but, hey ho, its the place to go.

You can get the address and info from here .... http://www.thehtd.org/ Please forward it to your friend.

Just like to add that this is fine advice and the OP's friend should get in there IMMEDIATELY. If he is further north there is another excellent hospital specialising in tropical diseases etc in Manchester of all places! Maybe they anticipated the arrival of Dr Toxin at the football club?

And the clinic at Heathrow Airport itself is very good, I'm told.

Maybe better to post in the general forum and not limit this to CM. Why not see who else knows some about black magic in Thailand, and/or about Thai herbs n poisons?

Thanks for the advice and the humour :o

He has undergone tests at a hospital in the UK, initialy they thought it might be some sort of tropical virus but it turns out to be some sort of poisoning - the chinese herbalist is a last resort as he doesn't seem to be able to shake off this illness.

Funny enough I used to work in the Hospital for Tropical diseases as a humble photocopying lad many eons ago!

I'll take realdealthai's advice and repost this in the general topics

I'm very sorry to read about your friend's illness.

In case 'they' can't find what has poisoned your friend, another option can be that your friend visits the Royal London Homeopathic Hospital.

Here a link about the history of Homeopathy in the UK. Interesting read, me thinks. http://www.homeopathyhome.com/reference/ar...omhistory.shtml

And a link to the RLHH's website:

http://www.uclh.nhs.uk/Our+hospitals/Royal...ic+Hospital.htm

In very very brief:

what they do in homeopathy they will look at the totality of all symptoms: physically and mentally, likes-dislikes, preferences-non preferences, etc. Based on these symptoms they choose the remedy that gives in its crude form the most similar symptoms. In other words: like cures like.

For example: if someone takes Arsenicum in its crude form, they will show all sorts of symptoms during illness. Now, when an ill person shows symptoms that comes very close to this picture, the person (or animal) can be cured with a enormous dilution of Arsenicum.

For this you certainly need a professional Classical homeopath who works with solutions and not with dry doses. From what I've heard the RLHH is an excellent place to go to.

I hope your friend will be able to recover soon. He has been suffering way too long already.

yasang is real and serious;

my (thai ) husband once had a 'do' with someone among the thai workers here in our group when he was still working with them and yasang was ordered and arrived thru the mail... fortunately it was never used as i got the package before the person who ordered it got to it (since i speak thai the kibbutz uses me to help with the often unreadable names of the thai workers)... i sent the powder off to the israeli police who thought i was nuts; the chemical makeup was never given to me....

the thai workers were terrified of the stuff; they say it can be put in water, is tasteless, clear and takes time to work, it works slowly, especially in combination with certain foods (if put in an apple, and u eat more apples, the stuff works more)...

i never got more answers, everyone was vague about it all, too bad i didnt save some of the powder for a chinese herbalist to look at cause im sure that middle east police dont have a clue and thought they were dealing with a bunch of barbarians.

this was two and half years ago... the police complaint was dropped and the last of the people involved is going back to thailand in two weeks time... maybe then, i can ask around the thai workers here about it... my husband says u get the stuff from someone like a witch doctor (those in issan know what they are called, i cant remember the name now)...

about that time i posted in the forum as a question, and no one could help me...

there is no antidote as far as i know... it is slow and i think also cannot be found in blood tests...

it is actually a combination of several things together, from the jungles area (herbs and things) .. i was thinking along the lines of alkaloid poisons but was unable to investigate further as the thai become very closed mouthed about anything to do with 'black magic' and potions which, btw , are often real (the magic maybe not but hte potions are).

if anyone else has info u can pm me also as i remember this little incident ingraved in my memory as there were 13 thai workers terrified to drink water or eat food that each didnt prepare or buy himself. they took to hiding veggies and fruit from eachother and there was a bad two month period where one guy barely ate anything.....

take these things seriously but western medicine is useless for this... he should also go find a 'witch doctor'

my husband is calling someone who 'knows' to find out, but he insists that in the kmer provinces (buriram etc) there are people that know what to do... your friend has to know what he ate that had the poison in it...i will pm u with info...

by the way, dealing with yasang is a major time crime as far as my husband says... but he says u must find a 'mo pee' in the kmer areas changwat:prajinburi and changwat sa kiew

but there is no known antidote.

'siaya saat' ; 'mo pee'.... witch doctors... u have to ask the old people, the younger ones dont know too much...

but anon says that yasang kills within one week usually but there are other poisons that are similar...

his great uncle was poisoned and died within a week many years ago, poisoned by angry neighbors...

being in england wont help....

yasang looks like a green powder btw...

edit: i am not pulling your leg, i have an anthropological interest in all this; to westerners this may sound wierd, anyway, anon is calling someone in thailand if we can reach him, he is in the 'know'... (i dont even want to know how or why he knows')...

am on the phone:

the friend says u have to get a hold of someone from korat to help u:

amphur soeng sang

khok noi non sambon

wat saap sut

for obvious reasons 'phu' wont give his number.... but he says it could also be 'kong' (all that wierd amulet and spell stuff mixed in with herbs)...

soeng saeng is my husband's area also... so maybe try the issaan forum to get someone's wife to investigate for u... some of this stuff is illegal so be careful...

the friend says that western medicine is totally useless for this but he says he's not neccesarily yasang... there are others....

thats all i can help u with... would be interested to know more also...

Dealing with Yasang My wife says that he should go see a monk. He can fix it (don't know the validity of it). She confirmed that i is related to the food that it is eaten. She says tell him to come here and she can help him. She says her cousin knows a monk that deals with lots of medicines and potions that might be able to set him straight..

Here's some information if you can be bothered to read Thai, it shows some different poisons and antidotes.

http://www.manager.co.th/Home/ViewNews.asp...D=4680249001383

The antidotes look like they might be really helpful for this guy. My Missus says that those plants grow wildly in her home. It was her idea to send him an antidote if he would be willing to accept it. I think she would have a monk or an elder prepare it. I tend to think that it is the chemical make up that will counteract the illness. Its really sweet... as I writing this she keeps throwing out suggestions and keeps asking questions about his ailment. If there is anything we can do to help let me know. We'd hope that someone would do the same if we were in that situation.

the way it works is that the stuff is put in something basic everyday food; thereafter if u eat that particular food, it effects u...

try the wat in korat apparently there is someone who specializes in this stuff there that helped out the friend that gave us the info in the first place... no thai will tell a farang so need an elderly thai in your friend's family to do the asking

am having anon check out the website mr. srang posted also...

btw, the price for yasan two years ago was 10000 baht (neung mun ha )

edit: this has got to be one of the wierder threads ; i still cant locate my thread posts from two years ago (around november 2005)if someone can find them, i had posted asking about thsi also...

Until this story I'd only heard of the 'Nam'n'pie' drug/hex poison out in Thailand. Apparently it bewitches a man who takes it as he falls for the girl who gives him it. Allegedly made from the corpse of a newborn/aborted baby. Grim stuff.

I don't know the nitty gritty of it or the thai spelling so the word 'Nam'n'pie' is how I heard it.

I heard this tale from a Khmer Thai who was deadly serious about Nam'n'pie (I figured it was a joke at first).

She said that it's one way an older thai woman who isn't attractive can get herself a man. She went on to say it's often used on older farang men!

Chinese herbs and potions are very different to the medicines we use in the West, medical wisdom is different too. I've been to doctors in the UK and Thailand on certain matters and both have disagreed about things.
