King Of Jordan To Visit Thailand

H.M. KING ABDULLAH II BIN AL HUSSEIN OF JORDAN WILL PAY AN OFFICIAL VISIT TO THAILAND ON DECEMBER 15

At the invitation of Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra, His Majesty King Abdullah II Bin Al Hussein of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan is scheduled to pay a private visit as well as an official visit to Thailand from 13-14 and 15 December 2005 respectively.

The upcoming trip to Thailand of H.M. King Abdullah II Bin Al Hussein is the second official visit to the Kingdom after the first official visit in August 2005. Prince Feisal Bin Al Hussein, His Majesty’s brother, and Prince Ghazi Bin Mohammed Bin Talal, His Majesty’s cousin, will accompany the Jordanian King to Thailand as well.

During this visit, H.M. King Abdullah II Bin Al Hussein will be granted an audience with H.M. the King of Thailand at Klai Kangwon Palace, Hua Hin District, Prachuap Khiri Khan Province on 14 December.

On 15 December, H.M. King Abdullah II Bin Al Hussein will be conferred with an Honorary Degree of Doctor of Philosophy in Political Science at the main auditorium of Chulalongkorn University, during which His Majesty will also deliver a speech on the role of the moderate Muslim. Participants to the ceremony will include members of the diplomatic corps, scholars, students and the Thai public.

Thereafter, H.M. King Abdullah II Bin Al Hussein will travel to the Government House where he will receive the official welcoming ceremony and graciously grant a royal audience to Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra for bilateral talks. The Thai Prime Minister will also host a luncheon in His Majesty’s honour. The Jordanian King is scheduled to depart Thailand in the evening of the same day.

H.M. King Abdullah II Bin Al Hussein ascended to the throne on 7 February 1999. He is highly acknowledged for His role in supporting the development of Jordan as a knowledge-based society, particularly, in the fields of information technology, education as well as the democratic reform of the bureaucracy, economy and politics of the country. He also plays a very significant role in the Middle East peace process and the post-war rehabilitation of Iraq.

The volume of bilateral trade between Thailand and Jordan has increased accordingly. In 2004, the two-way trade stood at 4.11 billion baht in which Thailand gained the advantage. The Royal Jordanian Airlines operates round-trip flights between Bangkok-Amman 5 times a week. Currently, the Royal Thai Embassy to Iraq, which also accredited Jordan, is located in Amman, while the Jordan’s Ambassador to India accredited Thailand. Nevertheless, at present, there is an honorary consulate general of Jordan based in Bangkok.

KING ABDULLAH OF JORDAN IS NOW ON AN OFFICIAL VISIT TO THAILAND

King Abdullah the 2nd of Jordan is now on an official visit to Thailand as guest of the Thai government.

King Abdullah the 2nd was accorded a warm welcome by Deputy Prime Minister CHITCHAI WANNASATHIT (ชิดชัย วรรณสถิตย์) and Deputy Prime Minister SURAKIART SATHIRATHAI (สุรเกียรติ เสถียรไทย) yesterday afternoon upon his arrival at the Air Force Command. During his stay between December 13th and 15th, King Abdullah will have an audience with His Majesty the King at Klaikangwon (ไกลกังวล) Palace in Hua Hin.

The King of Jordan and his delegation is also scheduled to enter into full-fledged discussions with Prime Minister Thaksin Shinawatra and the Cabinet ministers before he will depart Thailand tomorrow.

KEY REMARKS BY HIS MAJESTY KING ABDULLAH II AT CHULALONGKORN UNIVERSITY

King Abdullah II Bin Al Hussein of the Hashemite Kingdom of Jordan has received an honorary doctorate in political sciences from Chulalongkorn University this morning. On this occasion, the Jordanian King delivered a speech, emphasizing unity among all human beings and defining the true nature of Islam.

King Abdullah the 2nd addressed that the religion of Islam condemns aggression against innocents of any country or belief. He said the Muslims defy terror and reject extremism, and live in tolerance and peace. Thus, extremists do not represent Islam or the Muslim community, and the Muslims are commanded to seek peace at every turn.

The Jordanian King stated that healing will come by recognizing what people hold in common and building upon the shared commitment to peace and justice. People of different faiths can then work together and go forward together, to create peace and prosperity.
