Previous generations in the West, many / most women didn't work. But wages did not keep up with housing costs and women were pushed into the workplace. Unless you were a doctor, it was hard to live on one income. In Thailand, many/most women seem to be working their butts off, doing long hours. If a woman latches on to a well-heeled foreigner who pays all the bills and no longer needs to work, then I guess she has hit the jackpot. But modern Thailand is not equivalent to the West in the 50s, where most women were staying at home raising kids. Most Thai men's wages and having to support extended family simply does not make it feasible for most women to stop working.
