  1. Hi Jake, good to hear things progressing nicely, to add a bit of info from our limited experience, we're always learning, there is quite a bit of difference in growth rates comparing pond production to tank production, and less feeding costs in pond production, my wife uses both methods, however tank production has some benefits in that (in the case of red claw) they're more marketable to sell for aquariums due to their more favourable (bluefish)colour, thus attaining a higher price (up to 250 per crayfish size dependant) although in last 6 months prices have dropped from as much as 500 per cray.
pond raised tend to have a more unattractive brownish colouring so not so favourable for aquarium sales and depending on size and area reaching from 300-500 per kg.
An earlier question relating to registering is correct, although haven't heard of the police fine, I'll have to check with the wife where, but I think it's the govt department of fisheries that should be notified, a site inspection normally follows before registration is confirmed.

  2. it's completely legal to have more than one UK passport, I have travelled in/out with 2 valid passports for 8-9 years without major issues (apart from one big boo boo at a Laos crossing), also used the visa on an expired passport but stamping the in date passport on many entries without issue,, but you would sure throw confusion if you tried to get them to stamp you in on the new passport whilst showing them the visa on the still valid (but old) one,,, 5555
No problem switching passports in flight but not overland, if at any time you are posting your (second) passport back to UK for any visa application never post the passport you entered with for obvious reasons, and when travelling to other destination of new visa you should always show first to check in the passport containing your destination visa, then switch at the immigration point showing PP with Thai visa only,, have been asked a couple of times at check in for my entry stamp from thailand (which I don't think is their business), on this occasion I must produce both PP's, it is for this situation that I usually carry a back up print out from the UK.gov website that simply shows them that it's quite legal to have two UK passports.

  5. Unsure whether you already sourced the square bins or not, we have a couple 1.5 x 1.8mtr, by .75mtr high, not cheap at 4500 ea from those roadside plastic bin shops that are around everywhere,, for the crayfish another option, if you have the room, instead buying the big cement rings or making square cement pens,, per sq mtr I think it's a cheaper alternative, biggest size cement rings I saw were more than 2mtr dia, at 1700 baht, can either cement base or put in black liner which is much cheaper, 1.2 mtr size cement rings can be found with base already attached.
Edited to add,, there's also these boards,, Thais call it futureboard, can get from thaiwatsadu, and you can make up an approx, 1.3mtr x 2mtr box from this, lots of Thais use this and strengthen it with a PVC water pipe frame, costs only 110baht per sheet

  6. Well, just sitting in immigration just now, trying to explain the link you sent joe, but imm officer showing I'm 44 days over for my 90 day report,,, he confirmed this by showing me the number of days over, on the immigration computer system,,,, it's not an issue paying the 2000, it's just official clarification on this I'd like to obtain, which the imm officer is putting of as the link given above not having been updated

  7. No. He appears to have applied for a Non 'O' visa at immigration, which would have given him a new 90 day entry. Although he didn't leave the country it counts as a new entry.

He now has to leave at the end of the 90 days or apply for an extension of stay. When he applies for the extension of stay the IO will give him the date of his first 90 day report, which should be 90 days from the day he applies.

I would question the above advice based on my experience today, I applied for a 1 year extension in November, having been 60 days in country prior to that on a non I'm o visa, 30 day consideration stamp given, return in December for a successful 1 year extension,, as the consideration stamp return date and the 1 year extension date had a variation of 2 days, I decided to return to ask whether I was required to return 90 days after the under consideration expiry date or 90 days after the 1 year extension start date,,, shocked to be told I should've returned to report 90 days after my last entry into country, so looks like I'm facing a fine for late reporting,,, anyone else had issues with late reporting ?

  8. Hi jake, all the best to you too, I've been home since August, work is few and far between nowadays on the pipelay, so just looking in now and again on the wife in her little project, we have only 2 big tanks and 2 glass aquariums at the minute, just waiting a few weeks before she digs her first pond, the rest of the land currently has bamboo and galangai so we won't dig any more ponds for a while after this one

  9. Jeez, what's wrong with everyone here,, it doesn't look as though there was much if any martial arts skill involved in this fight , wasn't anyone involved in playground fights just like this in the primary school in their home country in their younger years?, to me the clip falls into the "politically correct" category and the editor of the story has found the correct audience to draw shock and horror from,,

  10. I have signed a new contract for some windfarm projects till 2020. Actually i planned my start with Aquaponics but the day rate and bonusses the customer offered me finally to step over, didn't leave me any choice as to extend my offshore business for another 3 years.
So I'll just have some crays in my pond and see how they developing.
before I have seen this steep demand raising for crayfish but if they are too tricky for Aquaponics, the European Union just did us (outside the EU sure not the european  fishermen) a huge favour again and cut down the quotations in the north sea fisheries to 56% for Cod.
Hence, a cheap fish like Tilapia (evtl. more robust to grow than crayfish) must burst the international market price soon as well..
    Lets look an see...

Yes,, I seen a survey result online a week ago saying more than 96% of uk fishermen voted for brexit,,, the euro fishermen will be quaking in their boots,, although I fear once again an unfavourable fishery deal as part of the sweetening exit package,,,
I cannot see Tilapia coming close to replacing either cod or haddock, it's completely tasteless in comparison,, one of the few restrictions that I've suffered since leaving uk is my fish diet, from a minimum 5 fish diets a week to probably 1 per fortnight, Thai seafood (or Thai farmed seafood) doesn't even come close.
