"he has asked his officials to find ways to direct people’s behaviour concerning face masks even if the health threat was now being brought under control."
"Minister sees the goal now as controlling behaviour"
"Right now, controlling the disease is not a problem but controlling people’s behaviour is"
Bold statements on actual objectives!

I sense a taking of the p i s s by the authorities...recycling paper?? What is that and where would a traveller happen across that by chance? The chickens are of course obvious with a traveller and should never cross a boarder.

Buying anywhere depends on time. If you can pay the mortgage back in less than 10 years, you don't end up paying for it twice like a 20 year loan is. Had I been able to finance the house I'm in from the builder at a low interest rate 10 years ago, my rent would have paid about 70% of the house I live in, had I paid enough to completely pay the mortgage, I would have a nice house now free of mortgage or rent. If I need the cash, I could sell it fast for about half of what I paid for it. Better than nothing.

The point is that you are the kind of person panicking to buy 1 ton of rice, because you tell yourself that there are only 21 million tons left, and 70 million people in Thailand. Because you don't seem to understand that tons can be divided into bags.
Exactly like the false scarcity of 21 million Bitcoins, to incite FOMO that "there are only 21 millions coins, buy now before they are all gone!" Since each individual BTC can be divided into individual Satoshis/0.00000001 BTC. There is no scarcity. It's just a FOMO tactic.
The more BTC increases in monetary value, the more the 1 BTC unit of measurement becomes irrelevant. At a certain point—exactly like at the moment—people will be talking more and more in Satoshis—of which there can be 2,100,000,000,000,000 (2.1 quadrillion). In the future, theoretically, exactly like 1 BTC right now, 1 Satoshi (0.00000001 BTC) could be worth $36,000, meaning there would be 2,100,000,000,000,000 (2.1 quadrillion) units of BTC each worth $36,000 in circulation, rather than 21 million. The scarcity that there are only 21 million coins/units is a false scarcity. When you put it in US$ exchange perspective @ $36,000, if your BTC1 loses one or more decimal place the other direction, on the way toward 2.1 quadrillion like these currencies https://www.fleur-de-coin.com/articles/worthless-money did. Albeit, BTC is supposed to be immune to the reasons for and behind these examples. And it already has behaved diametrically opposed for complete other reasons that can't be pinpointed. How many BTC do you get for $1? 0.0000283. This scares the uninitiated that have seen fiat currencies devalue fast and BTC behave as it has for no known reason. Scarcity? They are not scarce at all as THLT points out.
So if in this perspective, buying into BTC now, all it has to do is continue to drop decimal places and the BTC owner wins. (Check my math) You have $10 when it gets to 0.00000283.

If they really wanted to destroy it, they would have long ago like they did in Bangkok to Washington Square and want-to-be places that sprang up like Clinton Plaza which had much higher value to developers. For Pattaya, that area is likely not of much interest to build another shopping centre, there is still plenty, now masses of unused space everywhere for retail space. That short stretch on the ocean side there may be rare for Thailand, but doubt anyone would pay the price required to put an actual beach front hotel like what is on the islands. Keep in mind that busy traffic choked roads along beaches are the most popular tourist attractions on the mainland.

Old news. Just go to any Thai Embassy website and you’ll see the 10 year “O-X” Visa listed.
I was issued an O-X Retirement Visa in October 2019.
This is the same as a work permit, but long term.

10,000 baht is good if you are not hassled to do anything except an easy extension after 5 years.
But being put out of the country after making a life for 10 years, and spending your money in Thailand, is harsh.
There are other visa options thereafter, it does not say people are banned or deported after 10 years.

'Those who believe they are in one of these groups can apply for a qualification certificate by providing evidence and relevant documentation to prove their status with the Thai Board of Investment (BOI)'. Though this sounds like a high level of belief could get you the Smart visa, which is what this is, there are actually 5 falang type they are interested in and the qualifications are here https://smart-visa.boi.go.th/smart/index.html#qualifications

If I were cooped up in Singapore for the past 18 months, this would work for me just fine...though I have been here in Thailand. If the tax on wine will in fact be reduced significantly, a decent place on the beach and access to a wine and beer selection and decent food, I see the appeal. It's a positive step in the right direction if they can keep to this and work with whatever else they can give in terms of pre-pandemic freedoms.

It's nice to see you're all "tucking each other in" here.
Oil companies are not drilling so much these days and with the shortages it will be very interesting to see how this plays out. We are already sure of what will happen this year - next year should be VERY interesting. ????
It's ok, don't fret, the wind and sun will save us all.

I have not been able to find any specific mention of a reduction in the rates of tariffs on imported wines anywhere. They mention imported alcohol, which has a for lower rate than wine. Anyone know anything about wine specifically, in regard to this proposal?
If wine was included, it would be monumental, as it would be the kind of sacrifice that is needed to attract the wealthier tourists and ex-pats they keep ranting about. Next, lower luxury taxes. Then, Thailand begins to join the real world, and wealthy people feel like they are not being taken for a ride, and then they start returning, instead of vowing to never come back. In reality wine taxes should be reduced from the ridiculous 300% plus, to around 75%. Income from the industry would likely increase 1000%.
Hey, don't start introducing logic or real numbers!

Trying to fix that beach is a never ending battle that can't be won due to the local geography and environment. All it takes is a few days of heavy rain to reverse millions of baht of work on it so what to do? I expect removing the natural protection, the trees is only going to make it worse and harder to retain the sand, and that can't be done with this area as has been proven over many years of attempts to reclaim it. Best focus on another beach with better lineage and stop wasting money on this one.

Please anyone, my little dog has an allergy issue and our Sukhumvit vet, and all I can see are closed with the curfew. Can anyone advise of an open vet or one that will do a house call to give an antihistamine treatment?

Wait a second - on Biden's first international trip he promised to gift 500 million does worldwide with 80 million delivered by the end of JUNE 2021 (7Million of the June allotment designated for South East Asia). Those were never delivered right? How many PR stunts in a row can the US pull without delivering any vaccines?
And of course - where the heck is MY vaccine. I'm American, paid taxes, over 60, and getting nothing but total BS from my Embassy.
I think you are in luck. Check out the over 60 expat Bang Sue Grand Station thread. An over 75 friend of mine got his there 2 weeks ago without a hitch.
