It boils down to one officer's opinion. Voila, that guy will go far as a high earner. With the internet, checking prices of goods wouldn't be that tough, would it?
Not really he accepted the declared value that the sender put!!!
-
no it is not.....
50 USD=1700 Baht (customs use a different exchange rate.
Shipping, say 30 USD= 1000 Baht
50 % duty = 1350
7% VAT= 280 Baht
Total 1630 Baht
What he said.
-
And somehow by coincidence that just worked out at exactly double the declared value...
Possible, Depends on shipping charge.
He was looking at 47% charge on $50+$shipping charge then upto a few hundred baht clearance fee.
-
You were not ripped off. You were charged as per customs duty on clothing + VAT based on goods value PLUS the shipping charge.
Once again the thaivisa no knowledge of importing goods and the process and costs involved brigade claiming they were ripped off.
Live and learn? or at least look at customs import page to see what you can expect to be hit with.

Priority's. How about they tackle the lack of seat belts in rear taxi seats. They are there just they hide the connectors below the rear seat so you cannot use them. Why oh why?
Compulsory seatbelts in all taxi's then we can tackle the lane changers???

Thought these long haul type destinations were for the most senior types?

And only yesterday I read somewhere online that Thailand had dropped out of the top 10 list of best
Cities in the World.
Probably because thats a country not a city

Before if I used DHL/UPS or the likes I ALWAYS get overcharged. One time imported a box of screenprotectors and it had 4 iphone cases on the top. The cases where like wallet style, I was charged 30% tax ont he complete shipmtn of "luxury bags"..... In another instance I shipped 10 pcs powerbanks as samples to send to some customer. Customs via DHL claimed this couldnt be samples as it was more then 2 pcs.... woooot????? Almost stopped my bizz until I found a good forwarder with the right connections and knowledge.
Ignorance of the import laws and airway bill rules is not a justification that you were overcharge.
If multiple items are shipped under the same airwaybill number the entire shipment will be charged at the highest import duty of the contained products.
Sample shipments are limited quantities.
Think of it as a lesson. Too many people on TV willy-nilly order items from overseas without understanding the issues of importing products or costs involved.

relative to what?
Hong Kong, Singapore, Taiwan. As 3 regional examples.

All those numbers sound great. We just hit 14k last month in our household with the average over the last 12 months. 11.5k .....sigh.
Thailand electricity is hugely hugely expensive.

Foodstuffs / Chemical related items if opened by customs are a nightmare to get released if ever.
-
Its not the postage you need worry about it's customs when they open the box and check you have a licence to import the foodstuffs....

And the little box that is smoking and telling the world where the plane is just happens to be on the same circuit the radio works on so the pilot can't issue a Mayday ?
A plane burning up in the sky as you suggest tends to quickly fall out of the sky and not disappear.
I'm also curious as to you telling us of the other " Many reasons " for being able to simply switch off a vital piece of equipment.
Please do enlighten us ignorant TV experts
I see a very big picture indeed only not the same you see it appears
err...
My statement was in relation to why the transponder can be disabled by the crew nothing in relation to MH370. So feel enlightened!
But I did enjoy your same circuit as the radio works
Perhaps when you sober up you can re-read your statement quoted here to help you. And then think about my response....muppet.
I still find it hard to believe that after 9/11it is physically possible to turn off the transponder ? -
many planes has fallen from the sky just because the flight crew didn't like or was
annoyed at one safety feature or another and turned it off....
Many.... Bolox

Why would you need to turn it off in the first place
Let me give you just one of many reasons. Say the little box starts smoking and getting a little hot and then a small fire breaks out. One would think perhaps the flight deck crew may wish to cut power to affected equipment to prevent the airplane burning up in the sky....
The resident TV experts on everything perhaps just don't get the big picture?

Thailand WOULD be ready for democracy IF the fugitive would leave her alone to `BE democratic!!!
I disagree having observed both sides and how they deal with Democracy. Both of which have no idea. I vote military rule.

Some countries are just not ready for democracy. Military Dictatorship may just be what Thailand needs for an extended period.
