Pardon my ignorance; but what is the reason for doing this other than not to carry two passports for the remainder of the visa validity?
Doesn't it just fill up your passport?

I chose that option many years ago. I am on my 11th extension based upon marriage now.
You can change the reason for your current extension to marriage when it or near to expiring.
Here is my general list of required documents. Marriage Extension Requirements 2.pdf
Thanks Ubonjoe. Just to clarify;
- what is acceptable as "Proof of Residence"? My wife is still on her Blue Book at her home.
- Is a Kor Ror 2 required for Thai marriages? Is the Thai wedding certificate acceptable?
Thanks

Is there a procedure to change from Retirement to Marriage or do you just change the reason when your extension is due for renewal?

long stayers they need keep at least 400k in the bank indefinitely. Might as well write of that sum
So keeping money in the bank is not something we should do; better spend it?
If you're not happy to keep money in the bank then please feel free to PM me and I'll give you my bank account details. I'm very happy to have the money in my bank and it still be there in 10-20 years time so I can enjoy my retirement. Handing B1m to the Govt for a Elite visa is the biggest waste of money I can think of!

what is this detailed statement? i have the retirement extension, 800k for 90 days in a fixed account. there is no activity. no additional deposits, no withdrawals. might be some interest depending on the term and timing, otherwise just two lines with the same balance.
money goes in at least 95 days before i plan to submit, get a 100 baht guarantee letter and update the bankbook when bank opens at 8:30.
**latest renewal oct 2018 at CW**
It's just a list of the ins and out over the 3 months period. Start at B1m (or thereabouts) and goes down as I use money, but not below B800k.
It was just one page, on K Bank headed paper, signed and stamped by the bank. The lady who looked after me at Kasikorn suggested it was now normal for them to attach this to the letter???

can you get this signed detailed statement from every branch or you have to go to the branch where you keep your account ?
I got it at CW, not my branch

The last 2 years I have had to deposit money whilst I've been at CW. (I do that after I get a queue number).
This year she wanted a copy of the bank book showing the deposit AND a signed, detailed statement from the bank as well as the normal letter (stating B800k had been in there for 90 days).

I have a fixed account (12 month) at BKK Bank 1.5 %.
Me Bank 1.7%

The key for me is that the money is available at any time (i.e. you can access it but lose the interest).
If it's fixed and not accessible then it's not accepted.

A friend of mine does this; pays about B16,000.
No need to season the money only takes about a week.
BUT, if it's done it Pattaya you need to live in Pattaya otherwise you have to go and change your address???
-
You can keep it in your wife's name or joint account for 9 months of the year and just transfer it to your account 3 months before Extension.
That means if you die there's a 75% chance the money will be accessible to her!
An other alternative is to have the B800k in your account but one that has a debit card/Internet access so it can be accessed after your death.

At DM I was told to go with my wife by the IO "managing" the queue but when I got to the front of the queue the IO wasn't happy but when I explained he did reluctantly stamp me in.
I've also had a problem at Swampy since they installed the auto gates for Thais.

Of course you could have obtained the extension, taken the money out the bank and then it wouldn't have been in for 3 months would it?
As you can apply 6 weeks before the extension is due it would be a good loop hole to only have the money in your account for 6 weeks.
I think immigration are only following the rules.

For me B200 vs going to CW is well worth it. The fee, including the B200, is receipted on proper paper and is an excellent service I've used many times.
I cannot believe someone is questioning the validity and use of this essential service!?
You cannot get a re-entry permit yourself at the airport.
I suggest the mods remove the title as it's misleading?

Call me a cynic ..... the 7 Deadly days start tomorrow, hence this year they include 3 working days (Tue, Wed and next Monday) as this year there is only 2 days holiday whereas we usually have 3 for Songkran; not sure why this is so this year?
So, statistics would suggest that the road casualties might not be as bad as usual this year?
I can see that next week some people will be claiming that all this focus of minivans, pickups, seat belts, stricter law enforcement etc etc was the cause of this reduction.
Ummm, I wonder?

I cannot understand the benefit of a credit card when you have to provide security upfront?
Surely the idea of a credit card is that the bank gives you "credit"; this way you're just spending your own money as there's no credit given.
It's the same as a debit card except all the transactions come out at one time.
The benefit of a credit card is that you continue to earn interest on monies spent until such time as you pay the bill; maybe as much as 6 weeks. If you have to deposit money you're losing interest and hence no benefit to having the card; apart from status?
I'll stick with my debit card :-)
For those that have said you need to use some of the B800k during the year that's not true. You can leave B800k in the account from year to year untouched.

Do it yourself, save B28k.
Even if you pay an agent I think you still have to go to Immigration now? B28k to jump the queue ummmmmmm??
-
I can never understand why people pay an agent.
If you can follow the simple instructions and are patient (to wait in the queue), then do it yourself.
If you have something to hide, don't have the money, or have so much money you want to bypass the queue, then use an agent.

I did my 90 day at Ratburana last month; quick & efficient.
It's in the basement but they are moving upsatirs sometime soon.
-
I have had my B800k in a separate (interest) account for the last 6 years and never been asked to show any expenditure (Cheng Wattana)
-
In the basement of Big C; took less than 10 mins as efficient service.
Required an additional form; attached together with TM47 and passport.
-
Thanks Joe that's great; I'll post my experience tomorrow.
-
With the on-line reporting still "down" I was thinking of going to Big C at Ratburana for my 90 day report.
As it only opened last December I can;t find much about it and I just wondered if anyone's been and can pass on any knowledge or tips?
I think it opens at 10:30?
Thanks in advance for your comments.

Maybe there should be an option to vote for "changing to marriage visa". I think a lot of us, who are married, chose to go down the retirement route for ease; this may now change and we opt for the marriage route with less onerous financial obligations?
