Does anyone know if holding 800k in Thai Government savings bonds is acceptable for 90 day seasoning for retirement extension of stay?
-
I think I can apply to renew my extension of stay (retirement) 1 month in advance at Cheng Wattana but I wondered what the earliest they allow was. I've read 6 weeks at some offices; is this possible in Bangkok?
-
My on-line 90 day report wouldn't work so I went to Cheng Wattana yesterday and did the 90 day report in person (it was very quiet and quickly completed).
I took the opportunity to ask the Immigration Office why it didn't work on-line and she summoned someone to explain to me .......
She said that the first 90 day report after re-entry to the Kingdom must be done in person and cannot be done on-line. Is this correct??
Last year I went to Cambodia and did the first 90 day report after re-entry on-line without problems. My friend went home to Sweden and did his first 90 day report after re-entry on-line without problems so I'm not sure this advice is correct unless something has changed recently.
Searching the web for some clues I found on pattayacityexpatsclub that they say the first report after re-entry is different but no mention that it won't work on-line.
Is there anybody with any knowledge of this rule?

I arrived in Thailand on 20/11/2015 (on a reentry permit). I had a 12 month extension of stay (retirement) with permission until 31/12/15.
I went to Cheng Wattana on 17/12/15 to;
1) change my address (Korat to Bangkok),
2) renew my 12 month extension (retirement), which was successfully extended to 31/12/16.
I thought my 90 day was due 18/2/16 (based on arrival 20/11/15 + 90 days). I did ask the Immigration Officer whilst at CW in Dec if notifying a change of address counted as notifying my address per 90 day - she said no it didn't and I had to do my 90 day based on the date I entered the country.
I'm trying to do my 90 day on line now (18th Feb less 14 days = 4th Feb) but I'm getting the Contact Immigration error which suggest something is wrong.
Are my dates correct or was the Immigration Office wrong and I don't need to report till 17/12 + 90 days?

Read a lot about re-entry permits and used them many times myself for flying from Suv and DM.
Do they apply the same for land excursions?
I'm going by land to Myanmar; do I need the same re-entry permit?
Thanks for your help.
PS I'm on 12 month extension based on retirement.

I used it last week .........
Just a reminder; make sure you always have a spare photo with you as the machine was broken!
-
I left via Don Muang a month ago; they do everything for you, take photo, fill in form etc etc. Just need to present your self and your passport.
There is a sign saying 24 hours.

I have had the same issue before as my fixed term deposits often expire in the period just before I apply for my extension.
The bank always write to say the money's been there continuously; never an issue.
-
Korat reset your 90 day when you get your extension too.

I have got my re-entry at Swampy and DM several times without any issue. The thought of queuing at Cheng Watanna for a re-entry permit is ..... urgh!
At both airports they are fast and efficient; I've never had a long wait, never had a problem and I've flown at night too. From my experience I would never consider spending the time going to an immigration office for a re-entry permit.
I can only assume FredNL that your friends didn't find the right desk (as it is small and difficult to find if you don't know where to look) or the information is some years old as things have now changed.
-
Make sure you use the middle departure stairs (no.2 I think) after check-in as this is the only departure route that takes you via the Re-Entry Permit desk (as far as I know).

I had a re-entry permit at DM last week.
As you're at the immigration counter you need to ask for a Re-entry permit and they direct you to an office behind the immigration booth.
I took nothing with me, no form, no photo .....
There were two officers, the lady who served me was quick, efficient and friendly and took the photo, filled in the form and explained it all to me when completed; about 5 mins.
Excellent service and very easy ...... no problem :-)

Out of interest, is that the unit owners or the Juristic Manager who has the responsibility/liability?

80 Km/Hr, but they usually let you do 120 Km/hr. (90km in "City Limits").
When you get stopped, the police will tell you the limit is below what you were doing so the actual legal limit is immaterial!
I was stopped when I was doing just below 120 and the policeman told my wife the limit was 115km; thankfully a lot of laughing and smiling let him wave us on.

The baht did not react after last month' rate cut and neither will it this time around.
Reality bites, hey, General ?
According to the Kasikorn Website the GBP is now back at 50 for TT's; that's an improvement :-)
And just checking now Superrich is quoting £:50.25 and the $32.75 .......................

Nice to think the press could "speak out" about many things.
Maybe one day .........................?
But, most of us know the real story behind most things.

You only have to look at the (lack of) driving test in Thailand to understand why people drive the way they do.
They have no judgement of the size of car, maneuverability, perception of speed, danger etc etc, all things we learn as part of driving lessons to learn the skills necessary to pass the driving test.
No training results in dangerous driving.

Move.
Count yourself VERY lucky you don't own.
Worrying, considering all the options, getting involved with the police, complaining, planning retaliation etc etc will take over your life and make it a misery.
Just move and be happy.

So, I'm English and like European food.
My wife is Thai and likes Thai food.
Now, we're lucky that I also like Thai food and my wife also likes European food.
BUT, if she said to me you MUST eat Thai food I wouldn't be happy.
If you say to her, you MUST eat this farang food she's not happy.
Compromise = happy marriage.
Today farange food, tomorrow Thai food. Everyone happy :-)

Just outside Korat, rained for the last 3 days (not continuously of course!).

Classic Kameo Hotel&Serviced Apartments, Ayutthaya
Excellent, worth the extra :-)

I find it particularly frustrating when better quality hotels, that tend to charge a premium for nice facilities, block book 10's of rooms for a conference or tours that then disrupt the peace for everyone else.
Their quest to fill the rooms is short lived when people complain/post poor reviews.
Having said that the culture here is to accept that everyone has a right to make a noise whereas in western culture everyone has a right to peace.

Excellent :-)
Hope they keep doing it every day .....................

You are also likely to have a registered address somewhere other than your own house/condo hence causing difficulties every 90 days when you have to report your address.
