  1. I take the BTS to Mo Chit, exit on the park side and wait at the bottom of the stairs. You will see vans stopping and picking up passengers.

    When a van stops, just ask the driver "Tor Mor Chang Wattana?" Not grammatically correct but it will get the job done. "Tor Mor" is the govt, center. When one indicates "yes", hop in and you will be dropped next to the shuttle bus. About B20.

    Going back, take the shuttle back and then cross the footbridge spanning the roadway. There is a bus stop at the base of the stairs where vans also stop. Some are marked "BTS", some not. Again, just ask "BTS mai?"

    I always ask for Soon Ratchagan, which I was told meant government complex. Has worked every time. What's the difference between soon ratchagan and tor mor?

    UPDATE: Just asked gf and she said tor mor was immigration not government office. Many taxi drivers don't know where immigration is but the know where the government complex is.

  2. At first glance, I thought the headline read: Food Alert System Improved. ....and had visions of Thailand cleaning up its food, along the lines of;

    >>> more organic

    >>> less MSG

    >>> less overcooked veges

    >>> more fresh veges

    .......but now I see the key word is 'Flood', so it's back to my Thai breakfast: chemi-ridden rice in soup of congealed pig's blood, with tablespoon of MSG for added flavor, with roasted pig skin on the side. Oh, and a salad of 3 thin slices of cucumber.

    But it's you that chooses to eat it. You could have an organic breakfast. So your choice,

  3. There used to be a small florist on sukhmvit rd 33 (villa supermarket) a few years back dont know if its still there.

    if its for a thai woman, dont bother if they cant eat it,sell it or wear it then its a waste of time and money.

    probably explains why there are so few florists around.

    you can actually pick beautiful orchids growing wild in bangkok if you know where to look.

    Load of <deleted>. Plenty of Thai women love to get flowers. Maybe you hang out with the wrong people. There are plenty of florists in Bangkok. There are just as many in Bangkok as there are in London. I can think of about 10 just in Silom area.

  4. Well,

    I for one wont be silent on this. This is being posted straight to my facebook along with the bus crash killing tourists that never made it up on bangkokpost online.

    We need to be the "news" outlet as most of us have known for sometime now that the media isnt working for us. I encourage other posters on here to do the same.

    I don't think my friends would be interested in a 'drunk tourist almost gets abducted' type of story. Drunk people get in trouble in almost every country in the world. Are you also going to present a balanced view by reporting the tourist crimes in all other countries. Crimes against tourists in Thailand is pretty low. The vast majority (99%+) have a great time and keep coming back. Many on this forum choose to live here because it's such a great country. If t's as bad as some of you make out, then why don't you move somewhere else? Or are you the type who likes to be here so that you have something to complain about all day, every day? If it's so bad, then leave. Simple. There must be some really stupid people out there who willingly choose to stay in a country that they hate. Says a lot about you.

  5. Putting a media blanket on Phuket sure isn't going to help the image of the island nor the RTP. It makes you wonder if any forethought goes into any of these decisions besides how bad it looks and how no more face needs to be lost. A couple of other places offhand I can think of with media blankets are North Korea and Syria, even though news still gets out of Syria.

    Come on steelepulse.You have been here a while.

    Forethought in Thailand?

    Ask a Thai if you can can give them a 1000 bht today or if you wait 2 days I can give you 5000 bht.

    I bet the answer will be give the 1000 bht

    I just asked 5 Thai people this and they all said they'd take the 5000 in 2 days time. You are talking racist <deleted>.

  6. it was said, its not a gag order, it is because they couldnt talk to the victim yet...

    It was said that income tax is a temporary phenomena, just until the war ends!

    Freedom of the press means just that.

    The udd / red brigade campaigned before the last elections about 'quality democracy'. Seems that it's now all forgoten.

    It is certainly true that media outlets in this country need a serious shake up in the quality of their work, their accuracy etc., but gagging them, even for a minute is not the way to go.

    What is wrong with you people. This crime has been reported. Don't you realise that you are commenting on the article. If there was a gagging order then there wouldn't be an article. Stop spreading lies.

    And USA and UK and plenty of other places. Especially in UK at the moment where there is a blanket ban on much Olympics related reporting. Plenty going on that the main news channels won't report. You can even be arrested for showing a poster in the window of your own house. Olympics laws are on a par with North Korea.

    Also in the UK there is usually only one police spokesperson. You don't have every Tom, Dick and Harry putting forward their theories.

  8. The OP obviously doesn't know many Thai people. Most live in places that most of us wouldn't live in. Most don't have cars. Life is a struggle for most Thais, even office workers. I know many office workers on 15-20K baht and life in general is a bit of a struggle. They can't afford a car or a house and have to live at home.

    The OP needs to get out a bit more and meet more people.

  9. Good news but of course it will be seen as a negative by many posters who know better than both Thais and Japanese.

    Well I may come across as negative but if 400 of them showed up for his obvious one sided talk why if they were satisfied with the work already being done.

    Is he saying the Japanese investors are stupid and don't do do diligence before they invest.They just sit around and listen to a obviously biased speaker. Maybe it is not a matter of knowing better than them but a matter of knowing a little bit of what they are like.

    Currently, Japanese investors are the largest group of foreign entrepreneurs to invest in Thailand, and responsible for 45% of the investment projects, which applied for investment promotion measures from the BOI during the past 5 months. http://www.dredgingt...s-to-investors/

    It is hard to believe the Japanese economy is one of the largest in the world. They must be really dummies investing in Thailand while Yingluck is in charge!

    Obviously you know nothing about investing. You sound extremely naive. There is plenty of money to be made in Thailand and it doesn't matter who's in charge. Many investors are making lots of money here. Sounds like you can't so you want to knock others.

  10. Is this a joke of a thread? I mean reallyrolleyes.gif

    I lost my phone, can all you people go look for it for me and get it back?whistling.gif

    How exactly were you robbed in Gem factory? this factory has more security than the customersthumbsup.gif

    How about you post the truth not that it makes any difference.

    You took a freelancer from the street, bargained it down to almost nothing, got drugged and robbed.and now wondering why it happened to youblink.png

    Thanks for sharing the story of what happened to you.

  11. 1000s of people lose their phones every day. The police don't have the resources to look for lost mobile phones. If you have an expensive phone then you should insure it or look after it. If the police tried to find every lost/stolen phone then they wouldn't have time to do anything else. Forget about the lost phone and get a new one. Just think of it as an expensive lesson learned.

  12. And here's a different article posted 44 mins before this one saying that the baht is strong --> http://www.thaivisa.com/forum/topic/566762-thai-baht-back-strong-but-challenges-remain/.

    Sounds like TV are hedging their bets.

    So what's the definition of a strong or weak currency? Are they comparing to yesterday, last week, last month, last year, ten years ago? This is just a way to make up any story even if it doesn't have any foundation in fact.

  13. 8,000-10,000 a day of whom 80 are Europeans....talk about Fruedian slip.

    80 farangs would be about right considering how the Thais wrecked the place by taking it up market for local yuppies.

    The backpackers go elsewhere. In Bangkok you see some around bangrak area...much cheaper.

    A 100 million investment will probably be some 'front' for a scam milking off 30% for themselves.

    Khao San Road couldn't be called upmarket by any stretch of the imagination. You don't sound like you've ever been there. It is backpacker central with loads of farangs and pretty down at heal. If that's your idea of upmarket, I'd hate to visit a downmarket area. I've no idea f Bangrak is cheap for backpackers, but I think most backpackers want the atmosphere of Khao San Road, not Bangrak.

  14. t sounds to me like the police know that certain foreigners are selling and taking drugs in that area. So they have got together with immigration so that the people caught can be deported. That is a very sensible thing to do. if that was their aim then there is no point targeting Thais. The aim of this exercise is probably to deport undesirables.The article is brief and doesn't go into much detail, so no point speculating too much. The bottom line is don't take drugs.
