  1. If you haven't yet read this guys blog, do so. What an incredible egotist!

Here's an excerpt from the story of how he got severely spanked in a Muay Thai bout. Knocked down 3 times.

"I will always f*****g get back up. That’s what Alpha Males do. That’s what Leaders do. That’s what I do. That’s what Heroes do". :violin:

  2. I've just been reading some of this young man's blog, I actually ended up feeling a bit sorry for him.

The impression I got from his writing was that he has a very inflated opinion of himself as some sort of guru/leader (or that's what he wants people to think), his accounts of training in "one of the most vicious" Muay Thai training camps" and trying to make out that it was "in the jungle" (5 minutes from a 7/11) just proves to me that he's desperate for attention and will go to any lengths to achieve that aim. Maybe that's what his near-hysterical call to the 'vanished' brawl victims was about.

Read his blog, it's all ME ME ME - aren't I wonderful?

Give him 10 years of (hopefully) growing into maturity and he'll be totally embarrassed by his own writings - or he should be!

He's just a young man with an out of control ego. I agree with the earlier suggestion that he should spend his 3 months here in a Buddhist Monastery, it would do him a world of good. :wai:

  3. I recently booked a flight online to UK with Air Asia.

It didn't matter when I went so I chased all the promotions and ended up with a flight costing 23K Baht return, all in.

At that price it's worth paying their convenience fee.

I didn't have a credit card at that time so I got a friend (not American ) to pay with his card and then I paid him in cash. It took about 15 minutes computer time to book - no problem!

I wonder why they won't accept American credit cards? Seems a bit silly not to.

  4. It must be said. A very disappointing turnout from the TV members. That being said, the absentees missed a great night.

Rick had really put 100% into making it a success. A solo spot by Aly was the perfect start to a night of nonstop music. The music from the Reggae Band (Coconutheadband) was great, watch out for these guys, they may be doing a regular spot at Rick's.

Me and Glenn did a couple of songs as a filler while the next band was setting up and then we got some awesome blues from a very professional group.

The BBQ has to be experienced, it's got to be one of the best on the island.

    RickNRoll on the next one!

  5. I think Flip might have been referring to the schools like Montessori which have branches in many countries. I doubt whether the one I mentioned is 'International' it's just a small nursery. Do you know for sure that it's expensive compared to others or are you just speculating?

Yes, that is a small, international, expensive nursery. As the OP mentioned, "not talking about these quite expensive "internationa/private" ones.." My kid is on one of the kindergartens in the area, I did quite some research before choosing ABC, am happy with that choice BTW, so know the options in the area quite well.

Why would you think he was referring to schools when he specifically asked for nurseries/kindergarten?

Well, if you want to get picky. I should have said 'Montessori kindergartens'. How remiss of me!

So the one on Soi Na Na Chat has branches in other countries? That surprises me as it only seems like a small local concern.

  6. There's a small nursery in Soi Na Na Chat, Rawai (next to the new mini Tops).

It's about 30 meters down the soi, on the left

Yes, that is one of the 'quite expensive "internationa/private" ones'.

  7. The cream in the white plastic bottle with the pink top (all 7-11s have it) is the best one.

I've been here quite a few years so I've found that this is the best through trial and error.

It has some deet in it but only a small percentage. It works by making you 'invisible' to mosquitos, it has a floral scent which mosquitoes aren't attracted to. You just need to apply a small amount to exposed skin in the evenings.

If they're in your house, use a spray which is specifically for mosquitoes. The general purpose sprays which kill ants, cockroaches etc. are ineffective against them.

  8. Unfortunately you are wrong, most of them do actually have work permits. You are right however, work permits are meant to be issued for a place of work and not for roaming around the streets, but this rule is not enforced in the timeshare industry.

In fact the rule in general is never enforced. Would a farang real estate rep be working illegally if he was showing a potential buyer a property that is not in the vicinity of his office ? Would a farang teacher be working illegally if he were on a day trip with his class visiting the zoo ? How many people are working illegally by having a work permit assigned to some office premises, but work most of the time at home ?

I may be wrong but it's my understanding that any farang company has to employ 4 Thais for every work permit issued. There must be a helluva lot of Thais working for these companies if 'most of' the touts have work permits, and trying to equate a real estate rep showing a site to customer who has requested the service or a teacher making a field trip with his class, with timeshare touts who accost perfect strangers in the street, smacks of desperation in trying to prove a point on your part.

  9. I think Mr chainsaw you can sign up on the sign up thread, if it full then it's full and because you qualify you would get a higher priority then my self who doesn't qualify, Are you the chainsaw that was affectionately called hacksaw in the blues festival handbook. if it is i saw you on stage last friday, fantastic, the phuket all stars really rocked, if it's not you, the name chainsaw is already taken by a god in blues on phuket.guitar.gif

Aw shucks, Yes, tis me and thanks for the compliment. I'm a sucker for flattery and you've earned yourself a beer! :drunk:

I just realised I saw you on stage too, fantastic, why on earth havent you signed up yet

TV get together is developing to a BBQ with star(s):D

I'm not sure if I can make it yet.

  11. Rick and i havent discussed this, but if its full its full, and kinda hard to find a seat if all reserved. All signed up members will have one or two reserved seats according to their reservation/sign up

Crossed posts there but the above clarifies things a bit - thanks

  12. Apologies if I seem to be labouring the point, I'm just looking for some clarification here.

No you're not, you're just moaning and stirring.

    No need to get personal.

Actually I'm trying to get an answer to a perfectly legitimate question. Instead of offering insults maybe you could give me an answer to the original question, as nobody else seems to want to.

  13. Ok just to make you happy, they will have a list of people who have said they will attend.

That's what the official post for attending the event is about

So what happens if someone enters RickNRolls on the 11th and their name is not on the list as they are not/have never been, a member of TV. Or they are a member but didn't put their name on the list as they decided to come at the last minute?

Will they be refused entrance? If so, how do you intend to enforce this?

Apologies if I seem to be labouring the point, I'm just looking for some clarification here.

  14. Exactly my point. All this talk about only 'qualified' TV members being allowed to go is nonsense because it's totally unenforceable. Plus the fact that many attending members wish to remain anonymous - it's going to be a lot of fun playing 'spot the troll'!

See you there folks, I'll be the one wearing a big grin! :D

  15. I don't think I 'qualify' as I haven't made the obligatory 20 posts. Guess what? I'll probably go anyway! Who will stop me?

6-7 years members with 30 posts qualify indeed. have you signed up in the other sign up thread?

The point I'm trying to get across is:

What are you going to do about 'unqualified' people who turn up on the night?

I will probably go just to see how the 'qualified' members deal with them, should be interesting!

  16. Just making a point.

I was at Rick's place last night as part of the post Blues Festival party and a great time was had by all, good food, good music and a genial host.

To talk about having 'security' at RickNRolls is ludicrous. No doubt there will be other folks there who have never heard of TV. What will you do with them? Get 'security' to throw them out?

Get real people, just go and have a good time.

BTW I hear that there WILL be 'mind altering' drugs available - it's called beer!

  17. As an ex Bangkok resident who moved down to Phuket 9 years ago, I think I can advise you on some of the differences here.

Forget taxis and/or buses! It's not the same as BKK. Get yourself a motorbike to get around the island.

I would definitely recommend the south of the island to live. Rawai/Nai Harn has many good restaurants and a permanent multinational ex-pat community, live music abounds and there are some quieter beaches far from the madding crowd. You can rent a decent house for 8,000 upwards (possibly cheaper for long term).

I've never regretted moving to Phuket, if you avoid the 'touristy' places it's a great place to live. GOOD LUCK!
