  1. Certainly had a problem with the nerves, but a great voice when she got going.

    Where does she sing locally?

In various places around Rawai and she's always in demand at the Yachtie's events. I'll try to find out where her next gig is and let you know.

Just spoke to her, no bookings in Phuket at the mo as she'll be in Bangkok until the 10th preparing for the next round of TGT.

  2. hard to judge anything with the quality of that video but having someone who isnt singing justin bieber or crappy thai love balads might open some thai eyes to something better so good for her.

Not asking you to judge her, that's already been done by qualified people. Video quality seems fine to me, maybe it's your computer or your jaded outlook on life and Thais in general?

You haven't seen her live have you? Give yourself a treat next time she's performing locally. tongue.png

  3. She was a bundle of nerves and emotion but she held on and aced the audition.

Anyone in Phuket who has seen Gig performing will already be aware that she's a very talented girl. Seeing her trying to hold it together and then wowing everyone when they heard her voice was quite moving. I reckon she's got a good chance of winning.

If anyone can upload the youtube vid www.youtube.com/watch?v=1dpR-34-qfw

please do, as I don't know how.

  4. A good friend of mine died last week. He was well known on the island, especially among the biker community, he was a real character and will be missed by many.

    Here are Scotty's funeral arrangements.

Wed 30th, 10 am Scotties body will be moved from Watchira hospital to

    Rawai Temple. Motorcycle procession.

30th to 1st June, Scotty laid to rest at temple, all welcome to pay respects.

Sat 2nd. Cremation service at 12 noon.

Sat 2nd. Get ready to celebrate Scotties life at an old fashioned

Scottish wake. 5pm onward at the Chalong Yacht Club.

  5. my comment was not meant to be nasty!!

How can inferring that the OP's girlfriend has other lovers not be nasty?

Maybe the op will respond to his thread and let us know if anything on here has upset him!! my comment is a true fact which happens to many people, maybe he is unaware of this and my comment will help to evaluate his position, then again he might have a decent, honest Thai girl and therefore he will not take offense at anything said!!

Oh if you read my comment carefully it is not directed directly at the op. if it was directed at him I would have mentioned his name!!! it's just a comment and not one to be taken seriously!!

You all should heed kawapower's wise words as he's speaking from experience...

  6. If it's retirement or married man's visa you have to deal with the creeps at the back. Their game is to make the farang get annoyed and (in their tiny minds) lose 'face'. I watched their performance while my wife was downstairs getting unneeded extra copies of pages from my passport. The first thing they do is fold over pages in your passport and tell you to get copies, if you query them they just wave you away in an ignorant manner. It's all designed to wind up the farang so that they can feel superior. They did this to an Aussie guy and an American while I was sitting there and then smirked at each other when the guys got angry.

The best way to deal with these lowlifes is to keep smiling and don't give them any money, they will keep you waiting an hour or two but in the end you will get what you came for. When you finally get your visa give them a nice wai while thanking them profusely, hold the wai until they wai you back, it really pisses them off. Remember to keep smiling!

  7. Well what to say the jury has spoken about the cost of living and our existence on Phuket, but I allow me, “There is a time for everything in life” also in Phuket.

    Deep, very deep.

So deep in fact, that a thicko like me doesn't have the first idea what you are talking about.

Any cerebral types out there that can translate?

I'll take a stab at it.

"The smoker you drink, the player you get".

Nah...it means "You may think you're everybody but you're only a few because I'm some of them"

  8. Sorry if beating a dead water buffalo, but Falcon and I have attested to the fact that it is possible to lead a very confortable life on less than 20,000 baht a month in Phuket. See previous posts (or PM me) if interested in details.

I agree, mind you I don't have to pay rent or water bills. thumbsup.gif

  9. Prog rock sounds like a cool label for this type of music but it's not progressive rock, it's jazz rock and this style of playing has been around for years - nothing progressive (whatever that means) about it.

Can't knock the musicians though - very accomplished.

  10. well she was not at risk at that location .... higher ground if you are located on the beach front .... many thais just took the opp for a bludge , imo the owner is within his rights .....she walked ...

Agree about the location but we are talking about a frightened Thai girl who just followed everyone else to a hill.

She didn't expect to be be payed so not skiving off.

After witnessing the 2004 Tsunami I do not blame anyone running for the hills.I know I did.

I just find this a very harsh action sacking the poor girl.I wonder if any other Thai were sacked for being frightened.

But this is just my opinion

From that location she would have had to go downhill before she could head for higher ground no matter which direction she took, either down to Rawai Beach (a bit risky if you think there's a tsunami coming) and then up to Laem Promthep. Alternatively she could head for the viewpoint on the hill over to Kata, quite a distance to travel before she could get any higher than where she already was!
  11. So, I take it that you can speak and write in Thai. Is that correct?

im not with a lady of the night and we do not live permanantly in thailand. She infact is going to learn her 5th language next month.

so learning thai is down the list with befriending jetski people and building an underground railroad for thaksin

Hey Thailand, here's a radical idea. While your ("she's not a lady of the night" - yeah right!) industrious lady friend is busy learning her 5th language (what languages are they ?). Why don't you do yourself a favour and take an English grammar course at the same time? That way your pointless troll comments would have much more credibility. Commenting on someone else's grasp of the English language while making so many grammatical errors yourself just makes you look foolish.

  12. Live music and free buffet at the Freebird Bar in Rawai on New Year's Eve.

Gig will be entertaining the crowd with her excellent vocals + backing band. If you've never heard her sing, give yourselves a real treat and mosey on down to the Freebird on the 31st.

  13. .........and this is in the Phuket sub-forum because.............?

Just thought it would make a nice change to discuss a subject other than the usual boring moaning about what a terrible place Phuket is. I guess the subject is a bit too highbrow for the regulars...ho hum. Does that answer your question?

You should never start a sentence with a conjunction by the way -bad grammar -tsk!

  14. The christians in another part of the forum accused us atheists of hypocricy

if we acknowledge xmas in any way.

So, happy new year holiday season to all! biggrin.gif

As an atheist I always use 'Yuletide Greetings'

  15. I believe the question asked by the OP was answered very early on in the thread by several people.

All the people I've ever met that live in Phuket (I have lived there myself for 4 years) are as happy as the preverbial pig. It's the forums that are the problem and the kind of people they attract and the way they make people behave.

Look at this very thread. You would never know that some of the people arguing on here weren't teenagers by the petty way they squabble and try to get one up on each other. Forums attract people with issues, and even people without any issues perhaps are incouraged to act in a way that isn't truely representitive of the kind of person they are in the real world. That's what anonimity does to a lot of people.

Forums like this can be enjoyable, and they can be a wealth of information but they will always be more infamous for the negative moaning and one up man ship and the desperate need some people have to impress complete strangers.

Just the othe day when somebody was talking about where they get their petrol from he couldn't resist but to add in the words: When I get petrol for my two cars and my two motorbikes, I go here. That's what forums do to some people for some reason. Then you have the 'I'm friends with big police' and 'Iget it cheap because I know the owner' kind of comments, people trying to impress complete strangers with things that just aren't that immpressive.

So the fact of the matter is, nearly everybody that lives in Phuket loves it, because let's face it, what's not to love. A lot of forum users however are a different matter, who knows what's going on in their crazy little heads.

One of the most insightful posts that I've ever read in this forum, congratulations. Nobody should be offended reading your comments, though perhaps they'll give a few pauses for thought and reflection.

I agree - great post.

  16. Just got back from Ellis restaurant, I'm eating an excellent pizza while typing this. Good value at 210 baht but I think Modena's pizzas are a tad better.

A good recommendation for Ellis is that all the people eating there were Italian! Says it all for me really.

They expect to be moving to Nai Harn in the near future, maybe next week.
