  1. Hey Fiddlehead! Let me know when you need a taste tester for your homemade pizza.

Or anyone else who needs an unbiased opinion on their homemade recipes. You don't even have to deliver as I will come to you. Don't worry about supplying beer , I'll bring my own.

Ok if I bring my wife and a few friends?

    :partytime2:

back to the thread: I've eaten at the Ellis place a few times and the food was always excellent! The place had it's own unique ambience. It seems to be closed for good now. Does anyone know whether they moved to a new location?

  2. I'm delighted to announce that my pension claim for an increase has been settled!

I have a received a nice lump sum which is the back payments for my wife including the 3 previous month payments, as you explained Nick.

The claim has taken about 14 months to be sorted so if anyone else is waiting, do not despair.

Thanks again to the folks who offered positive advice and a large raspberry (bronx cheer) to all the 'Negative Normans'

  3. It's easy to make your own dowsing rods. Cut a couple of lengths from wire coat hangers, bend them into an 'L' shape, fit the short ends (about 4" long) into the plastic outer sleeves of two biros so that they can swivel freely and away you go. Dowsing does work, don't ask me why though.

I've read of instances where oil and water companies use professional dowsers!

    Good Luck!

  4. Does anyone know whether Chris will also be showing premier league (real) football at the Freebird?

I've heard it's also going to be the place to go for live music on a regular basis.

  5. UPDATE!!

I received a call from the UK pension people 5 minutes ago to inform me that my claim is being dealt with and that I can expect to get a decision within the next 4 weeks!

    Watch this space!

Thanks to all for advice and input.

  6. Most replies are off topic and do not address the Op's original question. Typical responses!!!

He is entitled to claim ADI for his wife -whoever she is and wherever she is!

    To answer the question.

It can take a very long time. I(through my company( have helped several foreigners obtain ADI. One is still outstanding from last November. There were problems with the wife's date of birth. It is totally wrong to take so long as it is your money. However it will eventually be paid -back to the original claim date and up to 3 months before if the claim was not made at the same time you claimed pension.

If you want more info please feel free to e-mail me.

Thanks Nick for your informative response, basically what I needed to know. Good news about the 3 months prior payments as I claimed my pension in June 2009.

Thanks also to all those who were genuinely trying to be helpful.

As for the rest of the flamers.....what a sad bunch, you really are a bitter little group.

You appear not to be updated, the ADI payment has been ended on April 6.2010 for new applicants, and it will end in April 2020 for existing pensioners, a different payment arrangements based on social security is now in place.

The deadline for ADI applications was on the 6th April 2010. As I said in the original post I applied in January 2010.

  8. Warning...You need be very careful with your pension arrangements if you declare you have moved to Thailand.

    Pension will be frozen.

I'm already claiming my pension. I haven't really had any problems until I claimed for my wife. I've been living in Thailand for 12 years BTW. Thanks for your input.

  9. It's the Uk why do you think so many people leave every year, I had many problems with <deleted> before I left thank god I am not there anymore!!!

I think most of us living here would agree with that statement.

I was hoping to hear from anyone who had had a similar pension problem and what the result was though.

  10. I submitted a claim for additional UK state pension for my wife back in January this year.

I have replied promptly to all their requirements (proof that I was divorced from my 1st wife. Proof that my present wife wasn't married before).

I'm still waiting for my claim to be granted. I really don't understand why it should be taking so long.

Has anyone else had similar problems?

  11. Here's a radical suggestion.

Why not stay in Rawai with your Thai and farang mates and see what it's like in high season? Also you could ask people who've lived in Rawai what it's like.

I've lived here for 8+ years and I've never been hassled by tailors or tuk tuk touts.

Hang around and check it out, I think you'll be pleasantly surprised. :coffee1:

  12. I reckon Friendship Beach would suit your needs. Great location and they do a decent burger. Also Thai food is on the menu.

If you want the traditional British Sunday dinner then the Islander Bar in Rawai is the place to go.

  13. From your description it seems like Rawai in the south of the island would be ideal for you and your lady. Not so 'touristy', plenty of good restaurants, some nice quieter beaches and lots of small resorts that will suit your budget.

Feel free to email me for more details.

  14. Laem Ka and Ya Nui beaches in Rawai are ideal for kids. Decent snorkelling at Ya Nui.

Shopping? head down to Chalong circle, small Tesco/Lotus on the right and Villa Market just past the circle on Chao Fa Rd West.

Rawai is much less 'touristy' than most other places and has a more community feel about it.

In my opinion Rawai would be the best choice for you and your family. Good luck.
