  1. Good things happening in Patong.

The same event in Rawai would have been lucky to raise 5000 baht.

    There's a great community spirit here. smile.png

    Well done to the organisers.

What would your Nanai Rd haunts raise?

A couple of rubbers and a quarter gram of ice.

You're always good for a laugh with your comments HG.

Careful iceman, your prejudice is showing. Why mention Rawai at all?

Kudos to the guys who raised the money for the unfortunate lady, not often you hear of anything good happening in Patong. I hope you contributed.

BTW The G.O.M. in Rawai quietly do a lot of ongoing charity work!

  3. Officials weren't notified of the concert by the promoter. Police knew nothing and neither provincial volunteers.

For something like this to go ahead their needs to be security. Plain and simple.

Of course I agree that there must be security at these events, regardless of the nationality of those attending.

My point is, I think they are full of BS when they say they knew nothing about it, therefore, may have to cancel it.

It's up to the promoter to seek permission and work with police and volunteers for crowd control.

We're police just supposed to guess and just arrive on the day without the promoter liaising with them?

Can't expect the police to look out for billboards or local adverts and say hey we better go.

Where else in the world does that happen?

  4. Oh dear. Here come the conspiracy what if theories.

The dude wanted man on man action and it's normal that Thai men are open to hit on you. They aren't shy.

Had a man in the toilets of JungCeylon toilets come and say the same thing whilst trying to have a look at my slug at the urinal.

Just smile and be on your way. You should be flattered that you're at least attractive to someone.

Just a bit of safety and security for a traveler, and others who care to read this forum, Hans. No conspiracy theory involved.

Remember the Suvarnabhumi Airport shoplifting scam?

Remember Immigration Oficers at Phuket Airport charging Chinese tourists a visa fee?

Remember, the Immigration "express lane" fee?

    Remember the "ebola lane" fee?

Airports in Thailand have their share of Thai Officials trying to turn a corrupt baht as well.

Jungceylon toilets are a little different to an international airport customs search. smile.png

Come on. Nothing sinister about a weird looking gay guy saying he is handsome and you turn it into a drug set up for extortion or prison.

You have a wild imagination or too much time on your hands, maybe both.

I suppose many tourists thought there was "nothing sinister" about checking out some prices in a duty free shop in the airport in Bangkok, either, until they were arrested for shop lifting and money demanded from them. cheesy.gif

It's suspicious behaviour, from a guy who sees thousands of tourists everyday, and I question his motives.

It is you who has jumped to the conclusion that his motive was sexual, and harmless, which I admit, is a possibility, but given what's a stake, it can't hurt to consider other motives, and keep the guy away from you.

  5. Quickest way to get an answer would be to go to the paint shop and ask. Point to the colour you want and the tin size and say 'tao rai'? (how much)? Hope this helps.

  6. Ok, apologies done, water under the bridge gentlemen...I didn't at all know Little John, RIP, but just to turn this thread back to honoring your friend, who by all accounts here seemed a great gent, why don't one of you share an amusing anecdote or something nice he did for you or someone else? (I'd also be curious to know which go-kart track he started?)

Why don't you come to the wake? You would be welcome.

His ex-partner (Go-Karts) will be there and I can guarantee there will be plenty of anecdotes from the people who knew him.

Thx for the kind invite Chainsaw, though frankly and with all due respect to one who has passed, it would have to be a family member or a very very close friend to get me at a wake/funeral/celebration of life. Of course I reckon few people are actually super comfortable at such affairs, but for a guy who's been an adrenaline junky for over 40 years, truth be told they make me feel kind of guilty/ashamed in a weird way, if that makes sense, so I try to avoid them and anything that reminds me too strongly of that greedy dude called the Grim Reaper.

There's nothing better than a close encounter with the grim reaper to get the adrenaline surging... come on down! thumbsup.gif

  8. Just want to make it very clear that Gig's Jam Club is not MY establishment.

I've been accused of profiting from a friends death by HG and I should be allowed to respond.

It really is a nasty insinuation to make.

    Unless he's just trolling?

  9. A wake at his old go kart track would have been more fitting.

    He loved cars and racing.

    He also loved music.

    <deleted>.

I'd love to pay my respects to John but the music there isn't my thing.

Hope it's a good turn out.

I don't understand your comment about profit. No-one profits from the death of a friend!

The resident Thai band 'Cold Chilli' will be playing on the night. I will probably sing a couple of John's favourite songs as requested by his son. No charge!!

The rest of the night I will be celebrating the passing of a unique individual who lived life to the full and who I was lucky enough to have as a friend.

    What will you be doing?

  10. I've been told that the ceremony will be a fairly private affair on a boat with just a few people.

Sorry if I misled folks but I assumed it would be at Laem Promthep Wat.

What I can confirm is that the wake for John will be held at Gig's Jam Club on Saturday the 17th from about 8 pm onwards. Lets make it a celebration of a life lived to the full.

    Live Band.

  11. We talked about this at GOMS meeting last night as little John was a long standing member & we were wondering when Tony was going to arrive. I understand Little John's wish was to have his ashes scattered at Leam Promthep.

That's correct. It's just a matter of when, which Tony will organise with Laem Promthep Wat when he arrives. As soon as I know anything definite I will PM you.

    Hey

No this guy did a good job according to the news.

He may be what you say he is but as far as the news goes he did lots to correct the graft.

I suggest he has caused a serious interruption to the money flow to the top end crooks and thats why he was moved.

american12bthai (above) I would love to read your take on it?

I would suggest you do not live in/on Phuket.... Nothing, I repeat, NOTHING has changed.

Hey MediaWatcher. I would suggest you do not live in/on Phuket.... Plenty, I repeat PLENTY has changed.

  13. Anyone who thinks the war on drugs is working needs to wake up.

Just imagine how rampant drug abuse would be without the concerted efforts of the War on Drugs.

    Downright scary.

Tell me when prohibition has ever worked.

You think that DE-criminalizing drugs will turn the whole world into a bunch of junkies killing each other? lol

Conversely, what positive gains to society do you see by making crystal, meth manufacture, possession and use legal?

How does that scenario make the world a better place?

Have you seen the damage that drug does to people? Addicts choose to lose all their teeth to rot until they have none left rather than give up on it. What about Heroin? Please present the upside to making it more readily available to everyone--because intelligent people are overdosing on it every day so how does making it more available help the situation at a societal level? The fact is that de-criminalizing these drugs does not help. The fact is their illegality saves lives every day.

This concept you have of lost battles--thats buying into somebodys BS because getting even a percentage of these drugs off the street does help.

Its like traffic laws. Removing them does not make the world a safer place. Have traffic laws made all traffic offenses history? No. Does that mean traffic laws have failed? No. On the contrary, the presence of such laws continue to save numerous lives every day.

    Your reasoning is flawed.

    Portugal!

  14. "Unfortunately, as I post, they will still be collecting tea money, and be involved in bribery, extortion and corruption. As I mentioned, the jet-ski scam continues, unabated.

I hardly think one postive interaction at a traffic stop can be applauded as a cultural change to a more efficient and more honest BiB.

You call me negative, but, thousands of business owners here are still being coerced into making their monthly corrupt payments to the BiB. This is a fact. I have been told this, first hand, by many, and have even witnessed the hand over on one occasion."

Do you know what 'ad nauseum' means? You're right on one point you do 'hardly think'. facepalm.gif

Anyway, now that you've given your support for my request. I'm sure the TV members will be more confident in relating any positive experiences with the BIB. That's what this thread is about - positive experiences.

It would be a refreshing change if you stopped droning on about the negative stuff, you've made your opinion very clear.

Or are you just trolling to sabotage this thread? If so, that's sad.

Ahhh, you're the one making it personal. Get over it.

Like you, I eagerly await positive experiences from members, with their interaction with the BiB.

No, I'm not trolling, or looking to sabotage the thread.

A "refreshing change" would be if you shifted your focus from my posts, and concentrated your focus on your own thread. smile.png

    OK
