  1. Is there any particular reason she hasn't gone to the authorities?

    Are you new here? smile.png

Since the highest authority in Phuket has assured us that there were no deaths, do you honestly think the authorities give a dam_n about some dead (probably illegal) Burmese workers?

Most Thai locals that I've spoken to all agree that there was probably a high death count in the fire, but that the news has been suppressed.

I'd be interested to see the signed resignation letters of the 100 Burmese workers who apparently 'resigned' after the fire.

    Simon

Simon, they're not talking about Burmese resigning (i.e. leaving their jobs) but re-signing, which means they are registering with Supercheap to be re-employed. Read the earlier posts.

Still no evidence of any fatalities BTW.

  2. Gleefully giving other farangs tickets.

Having worked for almost 6 years as a TPV (in 3 different cities), and recently returning to this volunteer work after an overseas break, I see my primary role to provide assistance to tourists and expats, in whatever circumstances (accident, arrest etc)

Handing out tickets is a job for salaried, Thai police officers, not foreign volunteers.

    Simon

    Well said simon43.

I think if a Farang tried to give me a ticket, I would ask to see his work permit. IMO that isn't "volunteer" work, thats BIB material only.

Then I would tell him to p**s off and ride away.

I agree, a farang police volunteer has no authority to collect fines from anyone. I'll wager he didn't try to take money from any Thais! jerk.gif.pagespeed.ce.TMGfqs4Lzz.gif

  3. Is the free parking lot, next door, still there and did anyone use it overnight ?

No, not there anymore, is being build on at the moment.

...and guess what they're building? I was there 2 days ago, it looks like a multi-storey car park! YAY!

  4. I prefer American style pizza to Italian style.

Much heartier (maybe one of the reasons why Americans anymore tend to be fat), and they don't skimp on the toppings.

I've tried most of them in and around Chalong/Rawai/Nai Harn and for me, it's Pizza 2000 is the closest to New York style or Chicago style pizza.

I guess it depends on what kind of pizza you are after.

So that's the reason you've been piling on the weight lately Fiddlehead? NOT!

Not many Americans (or any other nationality) have the fitness regime that you have. There's more meat on a butcher's pencil!

I'll stick to the Modena style pizzas, that's what keeps me looking slender! licklips.gif.pagespeed.ce.v-hsVd-Wpu.gif

  5. The guy in the wheelchair? If its who I think it is he was/is a regular visitor to Phuket, try's to avoid the cold English winters. He had a bad crash while racing the Isle of Man during TT week a number of years ago. Great character

I don't think that's Mike, the guy you're talking about. Last time I saw him he had modified the controls and was driving the bike from the sidecar! As you say, a great character.

  6. Forget about best pizza in Thailand, the only country where you can eat best pizza is Italy. They try to copy this in the whole world, but most restaurants are unable even to make an average pizza. I Thailand they even don't know what a real pizza is. Expensive, bad taste, wasted money only.

    Of course you're right.

An Italian chef who had pizza restaurants in Modena in Italy and now has an Italian restaurant here, complete with purpose built pizza oven would have no idea how to make a decent pizza! facepalm.gif

If you're going to try trolling, at least make an intelligent effort. jerk.gif.pagespeed.ce.TMGfqs4Lzz.gif

I've tried most of the pizza places in Rawai and IMO Modena has the best.

  7. The elephants in BKK are required to have a tail light (no pun intended). If you saw a red flashing light swinging to and fro you knew it was an elephant. They also had flashlights facing forward fastened to each side of the chair.

There are elephants near where I live here on the island and I can vouch for the fact that they are very difficult to see at night. I know a couple of people who have had near misses.

  8. I've heard good reports about the visa run service organised by Aquarium Solutions on Chao Fa West. (Opposite Island Furniture) Safe drivers, reasonable speed, maintained vehicles. Tel: 084-7458268, or 086-2715535.

    Hope this helps.

  9. @Livininkata &NKM

Yes, I always called it registration paper too, but when I went into the police station to get a doc to get it replaced they called it a “tax paper”. The colored one that has the year on it that you get when you pay the tax at the counter.

    @IrishIvan

With 10K in your pocket all the time now I understand why you need to carry a hockey stick !

Its around 350 dollars. That isnt much money. In a place like Thailand where money is worshipped I feel comfortable if I have an accident I can just throw money at the problem and drive off, no phone calls or fumbling around at an ATM. 120 baht or 4 bucks is not going to help you in any country.

If throwing money at them doesn't work, you can always throw your hockey stick at them! tongue.png

  10. Ok, so it is absolute nonsense in your particular case. I did not realize that this thread was somehow required to be filtered through your direct life experience.

To me, this article was a valuable "fair warning" to those who think it is just a free ride, without consequences. Your suggestion that your paperwork is Sterling, and them to question mine, exposes you more as a troll, and less as a contributor, so ...with your permission your Holiness...I will get on with my happy day, for anything is an improvement over arguing about something this petty.

i am a bit surprised at your ten year history, for many, who perceive the Thai culture as "Respect Based"...it appears little of that has rubbed off on you.

    From your original post:

    <snip>

The idea that a seemingly harmless character like this, ended up this way is an object lesson for those who do the correct paperwork, "Good on you, although it is a complete pain in the arse, you have the right paperwork, and much less to fear."

BTW, none of us know the future, but should it be decided to cull the Foreign herd a bit someday, "Your papers please" may end up in a one way ticket home, a meaningful fine, and if you can not pony up, a rather uncomfortable stay in a tine cell with 30 other guys.

    <snip>

What you wrote implies that those having the "correct paperwork" - as you put it - may one day be asked "Your papers please" and somehow end up with a one way ticket home.

    That is what you wrote.

    That is absolute nonsense.

I agree, I think bangkokequity just likes to pontificate. jerk.gif

  11. IrishIvan. Not sure if you dislike lady boys but looking at your new avatar if you look closely that could well be a guy!

I cant stand ladyboys. Any bar with ladyboys in there and I am out. I dont want some HIV infected freak leering at me or worse still serving me drinks, who knows what other diseases they have. Give me a nice clean bar without ladyboys....nice ladies and good food and I am there, So where in Rawaii can I find this?

Good for you then that all the real bar girls are HIV and other diseases free.

They get tested quite regularly and arent as active as ladyboys are, so the Rawaii pimps tell me smile.png

Sounds like you've got the hots for Rawai Irish. Did you have a bad experience here in the past? Maybe with a ladyboy? Just saying...whistling.gif

  12. @Chainsaw; You know just as well as I do that the Freebird has the same group of people year in year out. They mostly talk only within their little group. Its is hardly welcoming for a new face.

Sounds like a friendly place. smile.pngsmile.png

Yes it is. I think bubblegum is trying to troll, doubt he's ever been to the Freebird. biggrin.png

  13. The Freebird Bar is a great expat local, not a girlie bar as such but some of the massage girls (and boys) next door seem to be obliging (allegedly), if that's what floats your boat.

2 free pool tables. Regular live music nights, usually on Fridays when there is also good food laid on.

2 big screen TVs, at the moment showing ALL the Lions and Aussie rugby fixtures.

Situated at the end of Sai Yuan at the 3-way junction, just round the corner on the Rd. to Kata.

    Check it out. thumbsup.gif

There is a ladyboy behind the counter there that looks dangerous

Why don't you drop in, you could practice some of your macho ladyboy streetfighting moves! ph34r.png

I dont look for trouble, but sometimes it finds me, and I am always prepared
