  1. Of course, Rawai is so much better, right? cheesy.gif

How would you know, do you ever leave Patong or Bangla rd???

Living in Patong, I can only aspire to be able to live in Rawai one day. It's such an affluent area of Phuket. biggrin.png

So true, Rawai is rich in art, music, good restaurants and a real feeling of communtity. Come on down!

Whereas Patong is such an effluent area of Phuket. tongue.png

  2. Ignore the trolls Firemedic, you had the balls to speak up and you have probably made a small difference by getting it out on Youtube.

As for the saddos that try to make a point about your manner of speaking or your Thai pronunciation etc.

Do you see them getting off their collective <deleted> to do anything about the disgusting and worsening corruption on this island? NO!

I'm tired of them bleating on about "This is Thailand, accept things as they are" "Leave if you don't like it etc".

If more and more people made a noise as you did I believe there would be eventual change for the better in the transport system here.

    Kudos to you. clap2.gif

  3. Some people will never understand that people eat what they like and eat what they trust. The recent article that says 80% of the Thai served in public places is unsanitary. Who wants the shits every day.

I've lived in Thailand for 13 years, regularly eaten food in Thai restaurants and street stalls. I've had the 'shits' 3 times in those 13 years, once when I ate at Burger King and twice from food from KFC - go figure!

  4. has any of the "NEVER LEAVE YOUR PASSPORT" brigade EVER been to thailand? if you have then you must have your own transport because the bike renters take passports as a way of security against the renter deciding to ride off to the next destination, which happened a few times in the past and like most things in thailand got told as fokelore to every other bike renter across the kingdom.

their way of thinking is "he cannot leave thailand if no have passport", and its not too difficult to suss this out. if the bike goes missing they make a few phonecalls. you just ask a few bike renters why they take passports and they will usually come out wth that answer.

"this my passport, you cant take it"........

"ok mister, this my bike, you cant take it."......

Whenever I go somewhere I rent my transport, either bike or car. And I never had to leave my passport behind to rent.

    Same here

  5. I am a partner in a small fishermans bar in Chalong we went out of our way to get haggis neeps and tatties to have a burns night only to be told by the BIB that 6pm shut down. Jesus its hard enough making money at the moment just to pay the rent. Its not another nail in the coffin its a whole side what are they playing at a weekend with no takings? I know good bars in Karon that were going to have Aussie day now shut shop! Half my staff are daily paid thats 2 days no money Crazy .LOS you are wearing thin a move is on the cards . Comments?

I actually flew in 10KG of McSweens Haggis for tonight Oh Well Burns night Monday!!!!!!!

Will you be wearing your Jock Frock? cheesy.gif

  6. Hope you don't mind me adding this to your thread Grump, it's sort of the same subject.

I've been in Phuket for over 10 years now and I often see Thais riding their motorcycles in various 'creative' styles.

I've often wondered why some Thais ride with one leg stuck out at right angles to the bike. Anyone know why this is?

Another one I've seen is riders using an underhand grip on the throttle!

We've all seen the many Thais riding around with no lights on their bikes at night. A Thai friend told me that the young guys deliberately take out the bulbs because they think it's 'cool' to ride with no lights!

Another style I've seen, mainly farangs this time, are guys riding automatic bikes with their feet on the back seat foot rests. Weird!

Anyone else seen other creative riding styles?

  7. I do find it amusing that when the BIB's actually do their job and enforce the law it is always seen as a scam. As with every country I know the law says you need a license to drive a vehicle on the roads. How is Thailand some how different ?

Would a European going to America expect to be exempt from having a license to ride or drive there just because he was a tourist ?

    sad.png

Its considered a scam when farangs are targeted and helmetless and underage thai riders just proceed through that same checkpoint.

No, that is not the definition of a scam. On top of that, that is not what is happening at the check point.
Sorry to deflate your opinion but it's exactly as I seen it.

Farang stopped and Thais waved through.

Well you 'seen' it wrong Hans. I pass there every day and have seen many Thais being booked.

  8. That's a great corner for the bib. They knew Freebirds Mrs and were allowed to set up there, and now Gig's Mr bought that area so I'm sure the bib are still allowed carte blanche.

More reason to boycott the place.

Knights in shining armour facilitating the police always seems to be the norm here, lifts their connected in Thailand status.

Next we'll see the Bib down there wearing gigs jam pub polo shirts.

So what do you expect the owners there to do, refuse a request from the BIB and get hassled every day for licenses, sound, etc?

Sent from my D90W using Thaivisa Connect Thailand mobile app

No. They have to facilitate them so the noise complaints aren't acted upon.

Already people are sick of the wailing repetitive crap that filters out of that place.

Get your facts straight before you troll Hans. The Freebird Bar and Gig's Jam Club are two separate premises, there's even another bar between the two.

Gig's place is usually closed when the bib are doing their thing at the intersection.

How do you know about noise complaints when no-one else is aware of them? Which place do people complain about? Who's complained?

Any chance of letting the rest of us know where your 'information' comes from?

  9. I'm a definite seven.

I've no problem with anyone believing in whatever deity they want/choose.

It's when it comes to believers indoctrinating/brainwashing their children into holding the same beliefs that I strongly disagree.

Kids should be left to make their own decision on what to believe when they are old enough to understand the concept and are aware of all the different religions.

Bending a child's mind is child abuse!

We don't take the same approach with map-reading. I don't think that guiding children to the best of our abilities is child abuse.

    SC

But what if it was an invisible map with NO evidence that it actually existed at all? Would you 'guide' the child to believe that it did exist just because YOU believed it?

Equating blind faith to map-reading is ridiculous.
