  1. Your only other option is an ED visa which allows you to stay in Thailand for one year without the need to do visa runs (and can be extended for up to 5 years) provided you attend Thai language classes. The average annual cost is about 25,000 Baht. However, work of any kind is forbidden under the terms of this particular visa.

If you're interested in going this route, check out the Thai language forum @ http://www.thaivisa....-thai-language/

  2. In any other country this would be an armed insurrection, or a revolution - a gang of 40 armed men take over part of the capital city's main airport? WIll they be arrested and tried? I doubt it.

    Another day in Thailand!

    Yes, my sentiments exactly.

Seems a bit odd though that this hasn't been picked up by any other news media. You'd think that such an event would be on par with the yellow shirts occupying the airport and shutting down flights. After all, if bullets are to start flying around, it's hard to believe AoT would allow arriving passengers to disembark as usual.

  3. 4shared.com (files are in in MP3 format)

Alternatively, go to youtube.com, type "thai music" as a search string and then when you find one that you like, click the "Share" button underneath the video. This will give you the link to it. Copy/paste that into http://www.video2mp3.net/ which will extract the audio for you and provide a link to the MP3 file which you can then download.

  4. According to Wikipedia operations won't start until 2011.

However, it looks like they're going to follow the AirAsia model and charge for luggage, food and entertainment. You can skip those easily enough on short haul flights, but not on long haul. It will depend on what they propose to charge for meals.

Looking at the link to Aftenpost in that article, the ticket price to Bangkok will be 3000 Norwegian Kroner which is about €376 one way. That doesn't compete with Egyptair which costs €636, Turkish Airlines which is about the same and Emirates which costs €736 all of them return ticket prices.

  5. You can buy it online in Thailand for 80 Baht. Go to http://www.google.co.th/ (use the Thai language option) and then use this search string: Tom's of Maine toothpaste

Thanks for your input, Xircal, but which link on the Google results are you referring to where I can buy for 80 baht?

I doubt you can buy it online for 80 baht, hope I'm wrong as I miss their products also.

Here ya go: Tom's of Maine toothpaste

  6. I use the AVG Free Edition

Only nag screen is de pop-under at the bottom of the window. But you can click the button called "Hide Notification" to get rid of it.

But AVG is crap. Don't use it if you actually expect any protection.

You're entitled to your opinion of course, but I beg to differ. AVG works just fine for me without being smitten with the constant nag screens other AV products seem to employ these days.

  7. The airline will not allow you onboard the plane without an exit ticket as has been stated by many other contributors already. But if you obtain one, then you could register with a non-profit organization called couchsurfing.org which maintains a network of individuals who offer accommodation for free to travellers all over the world. See Couchsurfing FAQ

  8. I'm going to be flamed for this but I always wonder about the mentality of someone who has hundreds of posts and is presumably aware of how to use the internet, that he has to come onto a forum and ask a question like this. Search engines are extremely good. Don't be a lazy so and so and expect others to do the searching for you. However, amongst other search engines, try www.dohop.com.

The problem I have with ticketing agencies is that they only offer flights for which they've bought a batch of tickets for. For example, if I check flights from Amsterdam to Bangkok departing mid October, the cheapest available is supposedly with Egyptair @ €881. However, there's a cheaper option available with Emirates @ €736 which isn't included in the available options, presumably because dohop.com in this particular case has sold out of those.

It's always a better idea to check with the airlines themselves I find.

By the way, if you delay your trip until 3rd January, you can fly AirAsia for 950 Baht. That's the good news. The bad news is the flight departs Kuala Lumpur, not Bangkok. Still, you can take a flight from Bangkok to KLIA LCCT for about 4,600 Baht return and then take the early morning run to Vientiane from there. It's a roundabout route I know, but if you want to save money......

  9. If it's a PC you're using, simply install a second hard drive and install Win 7 on that. That way, you'll have a dual boot system.

If you're using a laptop, you can remove XP, install Win 7 and then shrink the partition by 40GB and reinstall XP on that. Again, you've got dual boot system at your disposal which might be useful someday.

Please note: there is a serious known issue with dual boot systems using Windows 7 and Vista with an older version of Windows such as Windows XP. For example whenever you boot in Windows XP, then reboot in Windows 7 all the restore points in Windows 7 are lost.

    See this workaround from Microsoft:

    http://support.microsoft.com/kb/926185

Better to install Windows XP as a Virtual Machine in Windows 7.

Before I get hit with all the "XP Mode is not available Windows 7 Home Edition" comments. Yes, that is true.

However you can actually run Windows Virtual PC on any Windows 7 computer, even ones running Home Premium that aren't eligible for XP Mode. You could install XP in it, then install Virtual PC's integration components, and it will work exactly like the default XP Mode.

There are two other free and legal Virtual Machine alternatives VirtualBox and VMware Player in which you can install a legal Windows XP virtual machine.

When you download Windows Virtual PC from Microsoft you need to be sure to select Professional as your edition of Windows … even though Home Premium is licensed to run Virtual PC and can run it fine, the download isn’t offered by default

You can also legally download Microsoft Virtual PC from sites such as Softpedia (http://www.softpedia...irtual-PC.shtml) Note: this is not the same as Virtual PC 2007 which is not compatible with Windows 7.

VMware’s integration solution easier to use and much faster to setup. Here are some very simple instructions to install Windows XP in Windows 7 Home using VMware Player.

Be aware that when you use a Virtual Machine 2 GB should be the minimum amount of RAM installed.

Well, I never knew that. Thanks for the tip!

  10. sorry i forgot to mention

iphone 4 how much in thailand

    thank you

Too much. Not worth buying one in Thailand anyway because the infrastructure doesn't support it fully.

Buy one in the Netherlands: you get the phone free and only pay a monthy rate of about 40 Euros which includes the cost of a minimum 190 minutes of calls or 300 SMS.

Btw, something wrong with you eyesight mate? Was wondering if I should use the same size font in my reply?
