  1. Hi everyone,

I would like to know if anyone here is well connected to the automotive industry in Thailand and knows if the Mitsubishi Outlander Plug-in Hybrid will be coming.

Thailand is well behind other countries right now and I am sick and tired of going to those boring motor shows expecting new technology, when every year its the same cars over and over again with just facelifts or new body panels and plastics slapped on them. The biggest disappointment was last year, when Impact advertised that year's motor show as the most technologically advanced....

So I know that all the full electric cars aren't arriving anytime soon, such as Nissan Leaf, Mitsu Imiev, Chevrolet spark ev, or any other...Although Eton Import has the Tesla Roadster and Nissan Leaf on display and ready to buy for double prices, with the Tesla Model S P85 coming next year for around 6 million baht....

I was just hoping if anyone had news if the Outlander would be actually produced here and sold as well, not shipped out to other countries after being produced, just as other vehicles are done here....

    Let me know your thoughts,

    Thanks

  5. Hi everyone,

I would like to ask what I can do with older computers and others these days. I have older technology items and would like to basically refresh my whole stock.

    1. Archos 9 tablet computer with windows 7 from USA. paid USD $720

    2. Sony VIAO JS all in one PC. paid 40,000 baht

    3. Sony sound systems 5.1 DTS 2 units. paid a) 20,000 baht B) 15,000 baht

    4. Sony LCD TV 42 inch. paid 40,000 baht

I think that's about it. Where can I sell these items? I know tech gets depreciation dramatically and of course i know they will sell for almost nothing, but I'd rather sell them than throw them in the garbage...

Does anybody know of any pawn shops? or websites in which these could be sold quickly?

I have been wondering this for a while now. People have so many gadgets like ipads and phones, what do they do with them in Thailand??? Even couches and furniture...what to do when you want to replace them?

Thank you and all help would be greatly appreciated.

    Tony

  6. Guys, you all got it wrong. cops are ok with people opening a business, whether the goods are fake or not. Every business needs to pay cops a certain amount of money per month. every business, even in shopping malls. so the lady must have decided that she is paying too much to them or she doesnt have enough money left over to live after paying them per month so she refused to pay them. thats when the cops do their job again and catch the illegalities.

not so hard to understand boys and girls

Where do you get your info? I have lived in worked in Thailand for more than 15 years. Owned several business and never had to pay an bribe or fee. My wife owns a shop in the mall selling clothing, same thing never had to pay any police. If you are operating an illegal business then yes, in most cases you do.

Well, its "in most cases". but yes bars (and not the gogo bars), are the ones where people have to pay off cops. in adition, I thought of a great business plan with the xbox kinect (its a game console in which every person can enjoy). I wished to setup 4 stations at a shopping mall called big C. Big C's management informed me that the local commissionaire (is that how you spell it) takes ... well... commission from the shops on top of the rent which totally ruined my accounting calculations and i gave up on the idea. Big C mentioned that anything involving technology has the cops involved! so imagine all the game shops (some which are legal), computers, cameras, photocopiers and so on.

another case my friend owns a guesthouse. the guesthouse has a bar. in order have it open just a few hours more per night, the cops extorted him of money per month.

there are many other cases, but of course as you said there are many other cases where no cops are involved. that is the lucky rabbit hole that they find...

  8. "Over the past three days, the department received 60 such complaints. There are also 11 complaints about taxi drivers dropping passengers off midway,"

So out of tens and tens of thousands of taxi rides every day there has been this avalanche of complaints? An entire 60 in 3 days.

Talk about a slow news day.

I would rather complain about those police motorcycles that ride around without helmets and on their phones in the middle of traffic...or how about those cops in their police booths watching their thai tv crap while everyone is waiting for them to turn on the green light and when they do, its just 3 seconds and then back to red...or how about the police drinking in their booths on thursday nights??? how many more? i went to the website, but its all in thai...dont know if it will be useful for me to write anything...

  9. 'Mega-infrastructure investment' in exactly what? .....And, when he tells us, how exactly will the specific projects help Thailand? If the European crisis doesn't hit Thailand, an ensuing global recession certainly will. If this doesn't happen, then the continuing increase in demand for oil and rise in the price of oil will wreak major havoc in Thailand.

Well, you have given part of the answer on what the money will be spent on. but its not for the people. the rich here are just going to split this money among themselves and save themselves for when these crisis arrive...

  10. Will you have a booth at the auto show?

Unfortunately, no. We are on budget constraints. All the financing has come from me, my family and my engineer's pockets to build the drive train. To rent a booth has huge costs involved. However, as I mentioned before, we will have private event held around certain provinces to interest potential customers and investors.

In addition, the auto show at Bitec is strictly targeting sales of existing cars, as mentioned by the main organizer, not technological advancements.

The events we are preparing are already planned and we are obviously waiting for the car to be finished in order to give people test rides. I will let you know as soon as we are ready 95-100% with the vehicle.

Thank you for your interest :)

  11. Hi everyone,

I am sad to announce that our unveiling of the electric car will have to be postponed until further notice due to underestimation of the power of our electric motors. We need to order bigger and stronger parts to cope with the high torque, which need to be imported so expect a delay of about 3 weeks.

However, you may check my facebook (type in the search tony kalniev) for videos and pictures of how we are doing. The cruising is great, range is optimal, charging done in 3 hours and all in complete silence...

    Thank you for your patience,

    The EV Speed Team

    Tony

  12. well, most of the owners of these import companies are polititians' sons. so basically, they skip those import taxes when they bring those cars in the country, but charge it to unaware customers and get 2-3 times the profit...its all about those connections and the ignorance of the rich consumers who say "i have the money so i want to show off and only expensive shit makes me achieve that, whether it is crap or not"

I mean, have you seen some of those import garages? some have 100 imported cars. with the combined "legal" value of all those vehicles, you could build ... central world or something! there is just no feasible way 1 person owns this, especially when the building these cars are sitting in is the value of about 2-3 million baht....
