  1. any child under the age of 11 does not need a TB test done. i believe if the child is under 18 they will not need to do the language test, though if they become 18 while on a settlement visa, they will need to take the test

will the child be joining its mother in the UK? what type of visa does the mother have? how old is the child? normally any visa issued to a child will be linked to the mum's visa with the same expirey date.

  2. The OP is correct about possible changes to the immigration rules, including increasing the qualifying time for ILR. There is currently a public consultation being carried out by the government. VisaPlus has posted a link to this before, but I can't find it. Maybe he'll post it again.

If this is introduced next year, do you think this would effect everyone who is currently on a two year settlement viisa, or only effect people who arrive after it has been introduced.?

  3. I tried to use my gold upgrade before it expired at new year and they wouldn't let me as I was travelling during high season. I was booking in September as well.

i am flying to thailand one way with thai air this october. i asked if i could upgrade to first with the ''mileage'' and they said no. - high season. i asked if i could upgrade with my new gold membership reward to first and they said yes.

i didnt take the offer as i will use it for august 2013, when i fly with my wife and kids ( yes a long way off ). i hope there will be seats to upgrade to 1st. we will give them maybe 6 months notice of travel.

edit; not sure when high season starts - maybe around september / october? i hope august will be ok or we could travel in spring

  4. wow. i am impressed with my new shiny gold card.

i can get a free upgrade from business to first in the next two years (return trip) .

i can also use my accumulated points to give my wife the same upgrade, within the next two years. Not sure what to do with the two kids though :whistling:

use of star alliance lounges when travelling economy, and 40kg baggage allowance

In addition, anyone coming to the UK to take up residence may receive full NHS treatment from day one.

Whether someone can work depends on the type of visa they hold. Spouses can work from day one.

i thought, If a person is subject to immigration control and lives with a family member who is a British citizen or a national of a country in the European Economic Area (EEA) they can claim certain public funds if they have a right to reside in the U

    fantastic.

But why do I read that they want to see that the spouse has sufficient funds to support the Thai wife so there will be no draw on public funds? Hang on isn't NHS a draw on public funds?

thanks. i was previously on a ''o'' type visa to see my girlfriend , who is now my wife. this has expired. i am going to thailand in October to bring her back to the uk to live. for the next 10 years i wont be going to thailand as much, so only need the minimum type of visa (maybe 2 or 3 week holiday a year )

so ok thanks again, i will get the ''visa exempt stamp' from the passport / immigration control

  9. My wife arrived in Bangkok this afternoon and went straight to VFS to collect the application. and it is GOOD NEWS. three passports stamped with the settlement visa. we are both very happy. lots to think about now and prepare. Thanks to everyone who helped answer any questions i had during the application process. without the hep of this forum it would have been a lot harder.

as i said before, we actually submitted the application without a custody paper for one of my step children, but we did submit court papers saying one had been granted. The embassy could have refused the appiication because of this, but luckily they phoned my wife and asked for it.

Can someone please update the waiting list from now onn.

    cheers

  10. Hi Everyone

I've been reading the posts for a week or two and thought it about time to share my recent experience. My fiancee applied for a UK settlement visa on 22nd July (4 weeks ago) She received a phone call last week from the British Embassy saying that my divorce certificate had not been included in the papers she submitted and that she could forward a copy to them - I was amazed that we had the opportunity to correct the missing paperwork rather than an outright refusal. Luckily I was with her in Thailand at the time and had copies of my papers with me. We used a visa agent in Pattaya more for the benefit of my other half than for me - the agent assures me that my divorce certificate was included in the submitted documents - another mystery missing paperwork story hey?????

Will keep you posted as to the progress and thanks to all of you for the great input.

Good luck for you and your wife. They are processing the applications quicker now, so you may have your answer in a week or two.

I have added you to the list

  11. My wife got the SMS today ( 5 weeks and 2 days ) saying the applications are ready to collect. - Her and her two children. She wont be able to get to VFS until next Tuesday, so a long wait now. I wasnt expecting it to be this quick. we submitted the application without a custody paper. luckily the embassy phoned my wife and asked for this paper.

i have a good feeling about this, but you just dont know. hope it is good news
