  1. Some ridiculous nitpickery over the OP using the word 'living', that just means existing. He's allowed to use the METV for 9 months if it's designed to allow that length of time for him to exist here.

There's no visa abuse here. Immigration are concerned with people working illegally, not people using one visa for the maximum allotted time. The issue isn't 'living' whatever that means.

People show Thai bank books at consulates as proof of funds when applying for visas, and condo rent contracts... they aren't told oh you look like you're 'living' here because you have a bank account and live in a condo.

I'm not doubting that people get grilled at a certain numbers of visa exempt entries or some getting rejected to prove a point perhaps.

This has made it to the UK papers. The way it has been reported though has made them to back off about the 20K requirement. They don't want to actually scare genuine tourists off.

But this has become a drama extended to all sorts of legally issued visas (including SETV), and let's just say, being polite here, that I am skeptical about some of those reports.

I personally know 4 people that were denied, including the Ed visa guy with 25k

obvious that none of you have or run a restaurant/coffee shop

or have the faintest idea what you are talking about.

By this line of logic if one isn't a a digital nomad then they have no idea what they're talking about when it comes to digital nomads, i.e. if they use cafes, what kind of people they tend to be, their general habits, finances, expenditure, etc.

That would be great then they can all get together and buy their own digital

cafe' and pay their own overheads, don't hold your breath though.

And heh watch out for freeloaders coming in, or sorry digital nomads.

I dont go to cafes no nomads I know do, you must be looking at backpackers on laptops and assuming they are something else. How could you possibly know if they live here or are just checking their emails

At any rate sounds like you need to hang out in more high end places

Most countries limit tourists stays to 6 months why should Thailand be any diferent?

Those countries are different to Thailand they often allow a simple route to citizenship, unrestricted employment in any field, first world facilities, ability to buy land etc. False equivalency, should compare to the rest of SE Asia

Perhaps instead of arguing against reality, you can start a blog to assist future travelers. Have a good day.

Reality is anyone reading that one line in the huge immigration act will conclude that it means no completely bankrupt people with no access to funds at all to support their stay.

There should be more mention of the exact 20k baht requirement and the fact you won't be allowed to use an ATM. Sure one poster above has gone on Google images and found some outdated sign from over a decade ago... but the best location to tell people would be when they apply for visas at consulates, on the paperwork.

Besides there are many reports of people still being denied with 20k + on their person.

    I do have a blog.

And yet they have time to keep their faces buried in facebook and instagram while they walk into traffic. Time to be be adults if they want some respect.

Ironically you sound like a child here. And are being totally disinhonest, there is in fact little to no information online anywhere about needing 20k baht cash at the airport, outside of Thaivisa.com. Only some info about it being a technical requirement to get a tourist visa at a consulate.

We shouldn't have a cow here folks that you show about $600 bucks US for a 30 day (or more) stay. How could this be so onerous ?..I think people need to sit back and realize that this is not a big deal. If you come to a foreign country and do not have $600 bucks to support yourself then you should not be allowed in. Travelers need to start being adults and follow the rules.

Lol everyone has the money but the problem is it isn't advertised as a requirement anywhere, no one but thaivisa forum regs know about this.

Consulates don't ask for it either, even though it's technically a requirement to get a visa, ideally they'd ask for it and then say ok keep the cash on you for your flight back as well.
