  1. My wife and I visited Baan Khaen Tong the other day. The location on Google Maps is here. They have over 200 kids from birth-6 years old. They no longer have older kids. They accept formula, boxed milk, and any toy donations. You can just show up to make a donation but have to make special visit arrangements if you want to interact with the kids. If you want to buy some discounted supplies in bulk at a place similar to Makro, there is a warehouse here you can purchase from.

  2. I got an email from the embassy after asking if 2 citizen parents need 5 years of evidence.

"Two U.S. citizen parents must demonstrate at least one day physical presence in the USA. Physical presence can be demonstrated with passport stamps, educational transcripts, bills, U.S. marriage certificates, naturalization certificate issued in the USA, etc."

So 1 day instead of 5 years. Documents are confusing.

  3. I think Khaen Tong Children's Home (บ้านแคนทอง) in Khon Kaen is the only orphanage under พมจ (Ministry of Social Development and Human Security) in Isan. On their website they are requesting volunteers to come and simply hold infants. Reason is because they have a 20:1 staff to child ratio and without touch they develop attachment issues. They have children up to 18 years of age though so I'm sure they'd love to have any help you can give. Bring a truckload of duplo legos and books and you'll never be forgotten. The link above goes to their FB page. I'd link to their website but Chrome says it has malware.

  4. I need aircon for the 1st floor of a townhouse. Inside measures 3.6m high, 4.1m wide, 14m deep. All glass front and a small door in the back. Concrete walls and neighbors on each side. I'm ok with wall fans much of the year and it won't be too often that I want the entire room cooled down. I had considered one of those rolling floor units but previous threads on TV about these are not favorable and my hunch is they are energy hungry pieces of junk. That being said, I plan to get a wall mounted AC.

    1. How many BTU do you think I should get?

    2. Worth the expense for an inverter? Guessing it would take a lot to cool the entire room before the savings of an inverter are worth it.

    3. My favorite location for the wall mounted AC is pretty close to the ceiling. Is that too high in a 3.6m room?

    Appreciate the ideas.

  5. Yes there are. Often have them inside the regular laundry type shops. There used to be one on the left side along chayangkun as you are heading into town just before the Nong Bua stop light. It's the first stop light as you head into town from the ring road. There's a popular motorcycle parts shop and then a small laundry place.

  6. Santisuk is right about the heat. Go out as early as possible wherever you go. The heat is a killer and you don't have to pay the park fee if you enter early enough at some places. I'm usually out of the house by 4. It takes at least an hour and a half to get to any of those locations. Also bring a charged phone with GPS like an iPhone or something. Trails usually aren't well marked if they exist at all. The waterfalls don't have much water for the next few months. Soi Sawan and Huai Luang should still have enough to make it interesting. Huai Luang is my favorite as the hike down is nice and you can swim but it's kind of out of the way. Soi Sawan is also fun this time of year as you can easily hike up the waterfall. You could also hit other area waterfalls and hike at the official Pha Taem park office if you go to Soi Sawan. The main office has a good restaurant.

  7. Anyone else use Watch ESPN? It's practically unusable on my Apple TV. My setup is unblock-us.com service with 3BB 30Mb/3Mb fiber which is only around 4Mb when I test it to U.S. servers today. I have an ethernet cable running directly from my router to the Apple TV. Netflix & Disney apps work flawlessly yet Watch ESPN delays, skips or simply won't load at all. Seems to be more reliable on my iOS devices but just curious to hear if anyone else is having better success.

  8. We currently have a 2010 Samsung LA32B550 Series 5 HDTV and use rabbit ears to pick up 6 fuzzy channels. We just received our 690b digital TV voucher from the government and I'm trying to figure out what I need to do to pick up the 36 HD digital channels.

I can't find anything in the manual about integrated digital TV so I assume I need a set top box.

We used to get True but cancelled the service long ago. The dish still hangs on the house. Is it possible to use it combined with a set top box to pick up the digital channels?

If not, what kind of satellite dish and set top box am I looking for? I don't want any kind of subcription service. Just want to pick up the free channels.
