  1. On my current setup today I'm getting 32Mb wired and 13Mb via wifi. I just installed some Ethernet cable directly to my Apple TV and the stability and clarity improvement is night and day. Also just ordered an AirPort Extreme. Things are looking up for my home network.

  2. Thanks for the tip. One of them is coming to fix a couple things.

If anyone ever has a pipe plugged or needs pipes cleaned out call the business below. 1,500b and they have one of those mechanical snakes that spins it's way through the PVC. Had it done today and it worked great. Had previously tried chemicals and my own manual snake to no avail.

  3. He did very good, clean work, had all the tools ready and was knowledgable about networking in general. I asked if he'd do it for others and he said yes. Doesn't speak any English. I gave him 1,000b for a couple hours of work. He said the going rate is roughly about 900b per room connected. PM me if you want his number.

  4. I found a friend who works in IT at a university. He said you can order 300m spools in Sunee. He came and installed everything for me from his supplies.

This is how we attached the cable to the wall.

  5. Does anyone know where I could find 12m or more of ethernet cable in Ubon? Didn't see anything in Sunee or Central.

Or possibly an IT business who would be willing to install some cable for me? Thanks!

  6. I'm now using Unblock-Us with my Apple TV. Works great! Using an AT&T account in the U.S. to use Watch ESPN and Disney Jr. which are the only 2 things I need. :)

If anyone is reading this later and needs help or has questions, PM me.

  7. You have a 30Mb connection and you're getting up to 40Mb on Ethernet?

Anyway, to put it into perspective, on 802.11AC I can transfer files at around 9-10Mb/s which is a lot faster than my 16Mb Internet connection that can download at ~1.6Mb/s if it's maxed out.

40 on the very high end but consistently over 30. I've used 3BB almost 10 years now and almost always get at or above what I pay for. Assuming those bandwidth speed testers are accurate...

    Which router are you using?

  8. I enjoy it in the city though plan to move back to Chiang Mai in distant future.

This is a good source for housing in Ubon. Might be tough to find a big house for 10k. Depends on your definition of a "farang" sized house.

Ubon has at least 4 walking street markets now and several fresh food markets like any other city. Nothing like the Night Bazaar or Sunday night market in CM though.

What kind of fitness? Thung Sri Muang Park downtown was mentioned. That's the main place people go to for outdoor fitness. They have weights, aerobics, takraw, running track, exercise machines, basketball, futsal and badminton nets. There's another park called Nong Bua with similar activities going on. There are plenty of pools around for laps.

PM me if you have any specific questions.

  9. May I also suggest you tell the location/adress.

Not everyone runs around with a gps, or have good internet connection.....wink.png

I did suggest a link. You can easily find a place on google maps and just link it. If someone knows how to post on ThaiVisa, I'm guessing they can link a location. I spend way too much time trying to find places 3 trees past the 5th house on the left. smile.png

  10. 1. Suki Udon สุกี้อุดร

    2. Cooked to order. Almost any Thai food you can think of that can be cooked in a wok. อาหารตามสั่ง

    4. Around 40b

    5. Facebook page.

    6. This place is very popular. It's just an older couple with 2 woks in front of a small shop. You can eat inside but this is a better take-away restaurant. They open sometime around 7 for people buying food to take to work and close at around 7 at night.

    5. Some pictures.

    6. I've had guay jab many places around Ubon but this is my favorite. P'Wanlope is the skinny guy running around serving and taking orders and just meeting him will make you want to come back. I recommend trying "guay jab moo dang." It's the guay jab soup with round seasoned pork balls.

  12. I'm looking to try some new restaurants in Ubon and thought it might be helpful to share some of our favorites. Use the following format to make it easy to follow the thread.

    1. Restaurant Name

    2. Type of Food

    3. Location using GPS coordinates and/or a link to the exact spot.

    4. Price range

    5. Any web site about the restaurant

    6. Why it's good. Any other info about the place.

  13. My family got theirs last year no problem. All regional offices were shut down during the protests early this year which created a nightmare for people like Memock but I would assume they are back to normal now.

    15°13'48.02"N, 104°51'10.28"E

See it on Google Maps here.

They have a Facebook Page here.

More info in Thai here with pics.

  14. I have 3BB fiber 30Mb/3Mb and use a WRT54GL router. Using wifi I get 15-25Mb. Using An Ethernet cable I get 30-40Mb. Would I see the Ethernet cable speeds if I invested in a wireless N router? My computers, phones and Apple TV all support N. Could even jump to an AC router for future devices that support it. Thoughts?

  15. I need to attach some Ethernet cables to some concrete walls in my home. What have you used to accomplish this? I hate the cheap little clips you nail in that electricians use for electrical wiring. Do they make a kind that use adhesive instead? Didn't see anything at a couple local hardware stores. If you have a picture I'd appreciate it.

  16. Anyone have a name and number of a "plumber" in Ubon? Need someone who understands how kitchen sink hot water heaters work and I also have a clogged floor drain.

  17. I received notification from Google last night that the satellite imagery in much of Southern Ubon was updated yesterday. I'm not sure if this was a recent change but I noticed they show all of the temple in Cambodia now. Last I checked Google still had it as a disputed area and the border line split the temple.

  18. I have a picture of the waterfall you were looking for here. Not the most impressive thing in the world but the hike was nice. The coordinates are 14°27'0.10"N, 104°55'22.13"E. Did you see the bunker like rock structures around the walking path where you were birding? I couldn't figure out what they were but they looked like homemade bunkers. I have some Panoramio pics up on Google Earth of that area. You might enjoy reading about my birding trip in Pha Taem National Park here.

I've tried finding all waterfalls in Ubon and have more info here. If you want any maps or info around Ubon I have a decent collection. Happy to share any of it.
