  1. Scented lotion. Coming from the U.S. we always bring back lotions from Bath & Body Works as gifts for women. Costs $8 and they'll make it last forever. Also, you can never go wrong bringing some kind of food gift. My wife's family enjoys beef jerky we bring back.

Everything else with regards to bugs and food depends on the family. Most people usually have mosquito nets in the house. Don't stay in a hotel and hang out with local expats if you're there for a day. Respect your girlfriend and learn about her background.

  2. Does anyone know what time the pool opens at the sports school across from Lotus? I'll find out in a couple days but if anyone knows before then, would like to know. Any idea what the cost is?

  3. I'm using Microsoft Word for Mac 2011. I've been typing Thai using the "Browallia New" font. It works fine but when I type in a text box and print, the symbols above and below the Thai letters don't print. The same thing happens when I print to PDF. Any idea how to fix this? Thanks.

  4. Does anyone have any suggestions on what kind of security camera I should be looking and where I can buy it in Thailand? Not really sure where to start.

    1. I'd like just one camera for my home that I'll point out the front of our house. Is there a model that only takes an SD card or possibly I could just hook up an external hard drive to it so I could record a longer length of time?

    2. I would also like an SD card capable camera to mount on my car dash.

  5. At least they usually drive slow. I'm less worried about the trucks and more worried about the crazies trying to pass them. You know, the new truck that thinks he needs to pass 50 cars at once.

  6. I hoped YES would be better... When I met the school owner he only talked about the exchange program and that's all they advertise on posters. My son will be an "asset" to their competitions in the future. He's 3 and speaks better English than the teachers. I do think their 5yo and under classes are better than any other in Ubon. Good teacher/kid ratio and clean rooms. Short on toys and books but better than other schools. We looked at all options in Ubon I think.

I'm researching home school for grade school and beyond. I have family in the states that do it. 4 hours/day and my nieces and nephews are brilliant. Probably safer than Ubon schools and will work well with our frequent travel. I know MeMock does, or at least has done it. Sounds scary but the curriculum and lesson plans are all prepared.

  7. I have a late 2008 MacBook Pro with a screen that's gone out. The official Apple retailer in Ubon quoted me a price of I think 15k to fix. Probably not worth the value of the unit. Is there a place in Bangkok or Chiang Mai that might be able to fix it much cheaper using old parts?
