  1. enjoy while you can mister white man

soon chinese english teacher might invade the market and take away your big salary

I have no horse in the race but.............don't most advertisement's for English teachers jobs say "Native English Speakers" or "Mother Tongue Must Be English"?

Now I can see how some Filipinos could be considered Native English speakers.

I have never seen a Chinese English speaker that I would consider close to being a Native English Speaker other than a few on major TV networks and my guess is they were educated from birth in the western world.

I have literally worked with 100s of Filipinos and Chinese in my job, which is not teaching, so I think I have a pretty good knowledge on their language abilities in general.

  2. Not sure about the teaching profession but international it is pretty standard to pay different salary for an "Expat"(the old definition was a person who's mother tongue was English-I have saw this written in contracts but now in general means folks with a passport from major European countries or North America) was versus a TCN( Third country national) vs a National (person from the country the job is in). I am not defending the practice but it is common in most international industries. The idea behind this is that both should have the same living standard in their home country. As an example the Expat from country "A" might have a normal home cost of $50,000 where the "TCN" might have a cost of $10,000. Food cost are also different so all this is taken into the salary cost in some industries. In the end they should make a salary that allows equal living standards in the home country.

Again not defending the practice but simply stating it is common and the thought process it comes from.

  3. Grin and bear it, consider it a lesson learned at a cheap price. Poor internet, no English free tv( This is good if they have no CNN-ha ha) and no hot water are pretty small things to make problems over. As far as the internet there is a chance other than bad service from the provider that there are too many people using the router if it is wireless. Many routers have a set amount of users that can log on. In many cases this is 99 but can be less or more.

  4. Always better to stand on your own two feet and not depend on women too much anywhere in the world.

If you got the contract in both your names it might be useful in the future to help prove to an embassy in the future for visa purposes that you have a relationship.

The best way, do things yourself in your name.

  5. I know you said Townhouse but.........Have a look at Muang Thong Thani at small condos. The TALL buildings, not the short ones. Less than 3 million I believe, maybe lots less. Better security than a Townhouse, easier to put in your name. I know someone who has been there since the late 90s. He likes it, not perfect any means, but pretty good value for the money. Covered parking also for your vehicle. Worth looking at anyway.

  6. Not sure there is much you could do (above suggestions included) that a willing Thai child could not bypass or fix, if they wanted to. My in-laws have been stripping down and rebuilding cars and motorbikes from about the age of 5. Just saying.

But if you do not want them to drive it just say so. Just curious as to why you would not want them to drive it. After all it is just a car. Cars are meant to be driven.

"Just curious as to why you would not want them to drive it"

Now thats a question that requires no answer.cheesy.gif We all know the answer to this in 90% of all cases and why take a chance on the other 10%.

  7. About 10 years ago in my condo just outside Bkk they put a sign in the elevators for a month or so that dogs were not allowed. Most people removed their dogs and a few did not. The condo cut the electric power in the the condos that kept dogs and also in many condos that had removed their dogs. It was a big big mess. Not sure how legal that is but they did it.
