They visit the arctic for the first time and are shocked by the changes from what they expected and what they saw. Very scientific.

Ocean pollution is a real problem, I admire that they are giving awareness to it. But they really need to be exposing the problems in their own backyard, and let the northern scientists do actual studies in the arctic. As for climate change, One trip up north is not going to tell them anything. They would be shocked by the difference by returning just two months later.

agree. i'm more shocked by another news article today that pattaya police say theres no prostitution in walking street ;)

Supposedly there are hundreds of Yakuza living in Thailand ever since the Japanese government started cracking down on them in Japan.....

when i played golf at Thana City, you saw the yakuza there frequently, hard to miss because of the tattoos everywhere. Lots of japanese golf club members there. my tip for a longer life, avoid all eye contact

  3. Back in the old country, during a holiday, the fines and points loss from your licence is doubled. people soon learn when you are paying $600 fines for minor traffic offences and losing 6 points from their licence.

I can imagine the brain dead idiots who dreamed up this 777 thing sitting around like in an episode of old TV show "yes Minister" listening to this drivel being brainstormed and gushing over the bosses brilliant idea.

Unfortunately the reviews are not great for this bike. Brakes are spongy, abs feels very dated, it's heavy for a 500cc bike and I dare say it....spare parts will become a problem.

It has been compared to the 500X as it looks similar and has the same horsepower, but I don't think it's in the same league. Technology is the difference and Japan made bikes are at the front....and will be for some time IMHO.

so you have riden this bike or are you just repeating something you read from a biased reporter? i am posting a clip of someone who has ridden the bike and is pleasently surprised by it. there are also many clips on youtube of people who have ridden it. i do not dispute that the spares might be an issue if you live outside of Bangkok, but there are many benelli bikes on the road now so i'd say they are becoming more popular. I can't find many comparison with honda x500 on youtube in english, there are a few in other languages.......

Gee, a little off topic aren't we?  What in the heck has it got to do with the cost of pork?:wai:

nothing, but as I was replying to post #3 where the question was asked "Where are all the supposed tax free items imported from other Asean countries ? ", it has a lot to do with Thailand imposing exorbitant taxes on ASEAN products.

And in reply to this "So, better buy a car which is really made in Thailand. ", if there was a SUV made in Thailand which was of comparible quality and price to Mazda CX5 or Subaru XV, I would have :shock1:

Really....I thought all the Mazdas were made in Thailand. My BT50 was. Learnt something new today. Thanks.

Construction of Mazda Malaysia's assembly facility, located on the same grounds as the body shop, started in May 2013. Construction will be completed and operations commence in the spring of next year. The Mazda CX-5, which is currently assembled at Inokom's factory, will then be moved to the new facility............http://www2.mazda.com/en/publicity/release/2013/201306/130605a.html

Can you specify the model and why does it come to that problem in price - I saw - PROTON - PERODUA - seem to come into Thailand at "Normal" prices.

Thai's just hate competition, it's all got to be for them, hence, anything imported has huge taxes imposed on it.    Where are all the supposed tax free items imported from other Asean countries ?

My car, which is made in another ASEAN country, Malaysia, costs 500,000 baht more in Thailand than the same car, made in Malaysia, sold in Australia, which is not an ASEAN country. TAX FREE asean items in THAILAND? not when they can rip people off

Often the straw that breaks a camel's back is just a facilitator that unleashes a torrent of resentments and anger suppressed for years.

I suspect incidents like this result from the cultural imperative about not losing face, or the guilt associated with expressing different points of view.

I've no professional training in psychology but so many people's behaviours here remind me to tread lightly in social situations that should be pleasurable rather than fearful.

Expatriates as well as nationals seem to adopt the pressures of restraint in order to fit in.

Many people remind me of pressure cookers - body language, tones of voice and the readiness to take offence where none has been intended - you can virtually see the steam some emit unknowingly.

Small matters not relieved through the use of civilised discussion with respect - giving equal value to each other's views - have probably rankled for years.

Many people in Thailand seem to have difficulty developing anger management skills due to a range of circumstances and pressures with which I'm unfamiliar.

Coupled with low self-esteem (which also seems embedded in otherwise self-regulating social systems), minor irritations can have what appear to be unreasonable fatal results.

It's very sad to think simple public mental health service messages and educational campaigns designed to address desirable attitude change could save so much heartache, pain and regret.

The annual cost to the nation of not freeing people from their repressed feelings must be huge.

what are you doing on thaivisa, you are too clever to be here ;)

you only have to look as far as the roads to see what you are talking about. I don't dare toot the horn (but I do anyway when the wife isn't in the car with me) for fear of starting WW3
