  1. Subaru XV top model has been reduced to just over 1 million....

The Nissan X-Trail is far bigger than the Mazda CX-3

Maybe the 'new' Nissan Juke ? coming soon

    attachicon.gif2017-Nissan-Juke-NCI-1.jpg

my wife loves the Juke. i call it a joke, hate the headlights and front end look. BUT i like the look of that new juke.

why haven't you put the CX5 in your list if you have the x-trail? i've had a 2 litre CX5 for 2 years now. great car. the only problem i have had is the battery which i replaced 1 month ago. 2 years for a battery is about normal. i like the CX3 but its a bit small in the luggage area for me.

  2. at least here they have coins so that you can pay 25 or 75 satangs. in australia, the smallest coin we have is 5 cents. so at the supermarket, you'll see items on the shelf that cost $1.98. never $1.97 so it can be rounded down. yeah right, thats thievery. why do i live in thailand and not australia again? clap2.gif

  3. i live near rama 2 road and used google maps to design some 60 mins walking tracks down the sois. always interesting, always carry 50 baht with me "just in case", always carry a 18 inch long 3/4in poly pipe in case the street dogs get too interested in my ankles. i love it

  4. Hi Johnno2. Thanks. Don't be such an a'hole. I did Google, but I think you knew a little more than Disambiguated and I. So you could give it more context or maybe you Google better then us.

a'holes don't offer assistance. i did. back to you a'hole. hint....you get lots of hits when you search. i can't look at everyone of the hits for you. i also can't help you breath. some things you'll have to do for yourself clap2.gif

  5. I work in Vietnam on 24 days on 18 days off roster and return to Thailand every time on my days off for 18 days. As you could imagine I have a lot of visa exempt stamps in my passport. I always fly into and leave Suvarnabhumi Airport. I too get a lot of questions at immigration but I just show them my work permit and residency card for Vietnam, smile and answer their questions. I have never had any issues involving supervisors and have always been granted entry. I have no wife or children in Thailland, I tell them I am here for a holiday. Below is from the Thai Embassy .com website.

Under the new provisions of the Visa Exemption Rule (VER), visitors can now come regularly to Thailand without limiting their stay within a total of 90 days in a six-month period. Just keep in mind that under the VER, you are allowed 30 days maximum on each visit.

Even that old 90 days in a six month period rule was scrapped, and that page is also outdated in not reflecting the 2014 change that allowed 30-day extensions of visa exempt entries. Unless the immigration official has a well founded suspicion that you are working illegally, they have few grounds for refusing many visa exempt entries. (The lack of legal justification does not stop some land border posts from barring entry to those they consider have too many visa exempt entries, however.)

that 90 day requirement is still showing in the thai immigration webpage. if it isn't current and you have a link, can you please post it

  6. if you are coming in on a visa exempt 30 day tourist from australia, you can come and go as often as you like so long as you don't stay here for a cumulative period of over 90 days in a six month period. once you go over that limit, you then need a visa from an embassy.

i have a friend who comes here regularly and he was stopped on his last visit and told to get an embassy visa. fair enough, he is here for over 90 days in a 6 month period. if you haven't been here for 90 days total in a 6 month period, inform immigration of this next time you are quizzed.

  7. Agreed about the pipes, I really didn't like my previous pipe burns.

I had a look at the Stallion dealer in Mueang Chiangmai today. Unfortunately they had "sold out" of 400's. The Iron thingy (pretend chopper) had stupidly heavy steering while stationary (I've never sat on a chopper before), and the seat wobbled in a somewhat disconcerting way. Like me it hung a little more to the left as well. Probably fun for a little fang though and I could probably get used to the relaxed peg position.

The other 150's where taller than I expected. At 5'11" I could just get my feet flat, a touch tall for the average Thai. Some bolts too long, some too short, a little more rust protection required, hard seat, and needing some setup adjustment (the dealer clearly doesn't know about symmetry). But overall they look great for the price and not hard to improve.

Can I ride one?. No. Is there somewhere I could hire one? No. And that last question had to be asked in numerous ways by a Thai as even the concept seemed incomprehensible. They could rent out a demo bike at say 700b/day and be well in profit after 100 rentals while actually promoting the bike. Sigh...

as much as i dont like bashing thailand and its "way of doing things", i find it really frustrating at their narrow outlook at things like you mention. "you want to test ride? why? it is very good bike to ride, trust me". yeah sure. no test ride, no buy, easy

  8. These 3 bikes were on the Stallions stand at the 2016 bangkok motorshow. The green one is CT400 based and the other 2 are the 250 single model. The green one had a sticker on the seat showing the kit was fitted by KD project racing. The stallions people said the green bike kit cost about 50,000. Verrrrry tidy, but i'd like the pipes a bit lower slung post-104113-0-21002300-1459922601_thumb.post-104113-0-04310700-1459922620_thumb.post-104113-0-90174900-1459922648_thumb.post-104113-0-37869000-1459922675_thumb.

  9. i'm australian and i didn't need either to get my statutary declaration from the embassy. i just filled in the form declaring that I get 65,000 baht pension and the embassy stamped it. i have pensions etc for the 65,000 baht requirement and i took along copies of the pension payments and ATM statements showing the withdrawals in Thailand. Immigration didn't bother asking for them, but i had them just in case. my wife is thai and we took along her ID etc to prove address

  10. No! the authorities decided it was a bridge too far.

When asked what they pleaded, they all went not guilty due to 3 no trumps.

    Wrong!

I heard they've been playing Monopoly instead of bridge till the bridge affair was sorted out with the court.

But they got busted playing Monopoly as well.

The 28 BIB that raided them the second time also took three property developers, a crew from the land office, and a surveyor. Apparently they'd heard rumours of illegal multi billion baht property deals occuring without proper registration or taxes paid, un-permitted hotels going up on every street corner, and some bugger was selling off electrical and water utilities.

However this raid never made it to the papers because they all waived "get out of jail free" cards at the BIB. coffee1.gif

wow, must have taken you some time to work out this scenario. very clever wai2.gif

  11. For my annual retirement visa extension, I arrive Chaeng Wattana about 08.00. That usually puts me 20 or 30 back from the door. At 08.30 when door is opened i head to the check-in counter and get my queue slip and am usually something around 4th to 6th to be called. I am always finished in about an hour. But the key to that is have all paperwork completed and all required photocopies from your passport ready to be handed over, as well as your income or saving documentation.

It happens coincidentally that my 90-day reporting comes up at same time as my visa extension. If, on your initial contact with Immigration, you ask for queue slips for both extension and 90-day rpt, Immigration will tell you that you cannot have both. But, if you take the extension queue slip and go sit down in the designated area, you can watch the Immigration queue and when it dwindles down, take your 90-day form up to counter and get a slip for that report. It will usually be numbered in the lower 100s of the queue. Go back and wait again to be called for your extension and by the time that is finished and you have the new stamp go over to the 90-day report section and you should see there are not many in front of you in the queue.

If you want a single or multiple entry stamp, get that queue slip while you are waiting for 90-day rpt. However - note that for the reentry stamp you will need a copy on the extension stamp you just received so you will need to make a dash down to the copy services to copy.

By arriving early with all documentation prepared you should make it out of there in less than 2-hours.

say what? if you are getting an extension of stay today, your next 90 days report is in 90 days from today i thought.

  12. i bought a second hand keeway superlight 200 nearly 1 year ago. i'm certainly not going racing/cruising on it. i bought it to get around my local area instead of taking the car out into the horrendous rama 2 rd traffic. after a bit of tinkering and making/changing sprockets (cost peanuts), it now purrs down the road instead of roaring its poor little head off. I'm as happy DELETED with it. the only thing thats let me down so far is a dead battery (3 years old, thats normal). I'm looking at upgrading to the stallions ct400. i think i'll be happy again and i'll have 120,000 baht in my pocket after purchase compared to the SR400. makes sense to me.

  13. If you're having to 'slam on the brakes' in such a situation then you are driving too fast and not looking far enough ahead at the road conditions.

you hit the nail on the head. i see so many people having to jump on the brakes at the last minute here because they are busy watching the car in front instead of looking as far ahead as they can to see if there are cars slowing down or problems ahead
