  1. Going from the airport to the city on Mahidol road. On the west side of the road just past Chiang Mai construction and Micro music. If you see the post office you have gone by it. This guy is very popular often see Harleys and large Hondas there. He speaks English. He appears to be open from 10am until 10pm

    That is Sa 081 8238361,

  2. If anyone has a roof vent,i was just wondering if they make much noise

while they are spinning around,I would imagine they would need lubrication

and that would be awkward if you had a 2 storied house.

    regards Worgeordie

Had 3 on the roof for years, quiet as a churchyard door mouse. From that same place someone else mentioned just south of Tesco on the opposite side of the road. Fitted by the shop, no problems experienced. At the time about 2500B for the medium size one.

  3. Remember seeing one many hears ago with built in shredder in one of the small hardware shops in San Pa Khoi, somewhere on the left after passing over the Nawarat bridge and before the first lights.

  4. Theft is always going to be a problem at airports. When I was regularly flying into the U.S. many of my colleagues had their suitcases broken open and inside was a note telling them that it was their fault for locking it in the first place. I never felt comfortable travelling with an unlocked case so having a TSA lock was the best of a bad job and lets face it, it doesn't take much to break open a case anyway. I have always used an extra strap though and in 40 years I have never had a case burst open or fortunately, never pilfered from or broken open. I don't know if they still do but at one time U.K. customs also recommended using TSA locks.

  5. HSBC Premier has the lowest fees and best currency rates.

Another option is to open a CITI Gold account in UK and another one in Thailand under the same account name holder so that you will only pay the currency exchange rate and avoid any wire transfer fees.

Have you actually done that? I have a citigold account and I spoke to my account manager in London about opening an account with Citibank Thailand, at the time (2/3 years ago) she said that there would be a fee, however that the system was being looked into.

Just transferred some on HSBC Premier. Exchange rate about 0.4B below Bangkok banks quoted rate. Transfer fee 17 quid.

  6. "called for a total ban on smoking at major airports nationwide Tuesday after many areas of passenger terminals were found to have "second-hand" smoke levels two times higher than World Health Organisation (WHO) standards over 24 hours"

Are we to expect a call for a total ban on all burning in northern Thailand when pm10 readings are only 2x higher than WHO standards?

Well it would be interesting to know when they checked the levels wouldn't it. If it was in March/April then I would imagine it would have been many times over everyones limit as it is every year.

  7. Dr Preecha is a specialist orthopaedic hand & wrist surgeon

After Neurology change Brian to Brain. smile.png

Add Dr Suthee's clinic address, where he's mostly at. I'm not sure how often he's at Sripat now he's retired?

    Dr Sudhee Sudasna Clinic

38/4 Chiang Mai - Lampang Road.

    Mon - Frid: 1800 - 1930 hrs

    Sat closed.

    Su: 0930 - 1130 hrs

    Phone: 053 - 214 139

Dr. Sudhee has sold his clinic. He has reduced his work to 2 days a week at the Ram, this before complete retirement.

  8. Where I live in the US you can buy a "cattle prod" which is basically a long stun gun that does not stun cows. They are about a meter long and very effective against dogs. I don't know if you can get one in thailand. If you modify a stun gun and move the contacts to the end of a stick or plastic pipe I think you would have an effective tool to protect yourself.

Do whatever is necessary because a dog attack can be very brutal and even cause death.

I always found that cheap electronic mosquito zapping bats had more than one use!

  9. The first question I was asked when renewing my license on Wednesday was ''Do you have a yearly visa'' I posted the attached on Wednesday which was given to me by the Land Transport Office. It does not mention tourist visas. Of course this is Thailand and maybe open to interpretation. It is also for a license renewal rather than issuing a new temporary license. May I suggest that before you waste time and money obtaining proof of residency and the medical required for a license that you go to the Land Transport Office on the Hangdong Road, on the left just before Big C leaving town, and go upstairs and ask. They will then tell you yes or no and what The requirements are, you can also get the form to fill in.

  10. If this has been mentioned before my apologies:

Just met Dr. Sudhee in the Chiang Mai Ram a couple of hours ago and he informs that he has sold his clinic and that he currently works through the Ram a couple of days a week. (Mondays & Thursday?) and that this is him on the run down towards complete retirement.

  11. I find a quick, cheap and easy way is to simply use a hand towel from home

You can use it dry or if the mood takes you, wander into a 7/11 or Mom and Pop shop and but a small bottle of cold water.

Drink some water and pour the rest over the towel. It is also handy when walking around.

People laugh at me as I look stupid but I am the one who is cool.

That was my usual method (or a folded sarong) but I was looking for something a bit handier. I still pour the water over myself before I start to ride. The evaporation is almost chilling!

Have you tried a cooling vest or a cooling neck wrap?

    http://www.webbikeworld.com/cooling-vests/

    Cooling Vests are becoming

the must have item for summer or whenever heat stress is an

    issue.

    Retail Price from $220.00

Will stay cold for up to 2 hours.

Total about 6,380 baht plus postage.

Towel 50 baht. cold water 6 baht. More cold water 6 baht.

Ebay from 40$, Joe Rockets available from $30, most expensive from Ebay $119 for up to 8 hours. God knows where you get your information from.

  13. I have had a few things shipped in recently from Europe and Hong kong/China, mostly from Ebay. These are one offs for personal use. Everything that was under (about)150USD had no import duty attached. Only one item that was around 175USD attracted any import tax.

How much did you pay for the item that was 175? Im thinking about importing some clothes and sports nutrition that I cant find in thailand.

    About 1500B
